When we’re young, we have an amazing positive outlook about how great life is going to be. But somewhere along the line we forget to dream and end up settling. Join Up Dots features amazing people who refuse to give up and chose to go after their dreams. This is your blueprint for greatness. So here’s your host live from the back of his garden in the UK. David Ralph.
David Ralph [0:26]
Yes, hello, a good morning. Good morning to everybody. It’s David. Ralph. Yes. Hallelujah. It’s the big mouth. Oh, hey, man. How are we? How are we everybody? Thank you so much for being here on Join Up Dots. Thank you so much for everybody listening and dropping me lines. And should I tell you something, now I won’t. I’m gonna leave it till later. I was going to give you some advice about all the issues I’ve been going through. But I won’t because this episode’s just gonna be motivation. It’s going to be motivated. is going to be positivity. And it’s going to be everything that you guys and your sexy that leaders deserve from Join Up Dots. Well, how are you? How are you? This is the last episode that I’m going to be recording before I get on an aeroplane. And I fly off to Iceland. So if anybody’s in Reykjavik in Iceland, this weekend, and they see somebody walking around with a very small a blonde woman, that’d be me. That’d be me and my wife. We’re doing the Golden Circle in Iceland this weekend. And we come back on Tuesday. So we fly out on Friday evening, and we come back on Tuesday. Bit of a problem but it’s my son’s 18th birthday on Friday. didn’t plan it overly well, but he’s not that bothered. My wife is more bothered. Oh my God, we can’t go because he’s at birthday. Hell Well, we get over it. Get over it. It’s more about me and the Golden Circle. I’m gonna be I’m gonna be looking at things and if I see that Northern Lights I tell you, I see the Northern Lights, bucket list time that has been on my bucket list. Since I was a small child and the the chances of it I haven’t even looked at the weather in Reykjavik because I don’t want to be disappointed. But the chances of seeing them are kind of slim at the best. But if you do get a clear night and it all happens, then bang, that’s gonna that’s gonna be like God speaking to me and saying, David, David, you deserve it. You deserve it. Anyway, what we got today is a free little emails that we get from people that I’ve kind of summarised. I used to kind of read them all, but now I kind of squeeze that there’s a main parts out of him. It makes it more precise for you guys because I know you’re busy. And I know that you’ve got things to do in your own life. Now this is from a lady who Gemma chase in Montana, USA. So she’s probably up to her neck in snow at the moment. Although it’s March, maybe It’s a little bit better out there. She says, Hi, David. I think you are the man to give me the answer I need you bet your Gemma. I started building my online business last year selling baseball cards online, it’s going well, so far, I’m not enough to make a living, but enough to start paying off my big expenses each month. Now even back right back, that’s a big win. That is a big win. I say to people all the time, if you can earn a salary, and then suddenly get another salary coming in, but you can get debt free. When you’re really you know, cooking on gas, it’s quite difficult to go from where you are to where you want to be. There’s got to be steps that lead to it be half step sometimes. And if you can just get to the point of becoming mortgage free or car loan debt free and then you’ve suddenly got like an extra $400 which you were paying one way that you can then pay on other debts. big big win. So go well for you what my co belfie you go go Jim, go Gemma Chase.
Oh, that’s why I said go well, it’s going well so far, I kind of half made and spoke at the same time. Not not enough to make a living but enough to start paying off my big expenses each month. The thing is, I’m a bit bored with doing it now after a squillion years of doing Join Up Dots. How do you keep the motivation and keep inspired? I need help. Now, I got a lot of people drop me lines about this saying I’ve started something but I’m a bit bored. I find more interesting Netflix. And I think they always want me to say well just push through. just pushed through and Ben your be all right. But I rarely ever say that because motivation isn’t something you can just create. If you haven’t got it. It’s got to come to you. It’s like It’s like a magical gift. It’s not when you sell a piano. I sit at a piano quite a lot and I write songs. All the time, never any lyrics. So like classically stuff. And sometimes I just sit there and it just comes to me and it’s just like wonderful and I just got all this the greatest thing I’ve ever written. And then other times you can sit there and you can just plough through. Now offers have bad artists have bad they have to wait until the creative Muse hits. And I think in business, it’s the same. If you’re just sort of ploughing through and slogging your guts out a lot of time the work that you’re actually producing isn’t very good. Anyway, now I look back on a load of stuff I used to do in Jeff Join Up Dots who I used to think now just do another hour, just do another hour. Well, I should have just walked away from it. So I get so many people asking me as I say about this, and I always say if you’re bored with it, walk away. Just walk away and let it let your mind run on other stuff. Get into nature. And just two weeks, you know, you can’t leave my business for two weeks. Just two weeks is a big When and a lot of my clients but I teach how to build businesses once they get it up and running. And they’re getting into the nuts and bolts of it and they’re getting income in vain they often drop me a line and they go, I’m doing well now I’m getting income in. I’m a bit bored with doing it and I always say have a break. Just walk away from it, leave it and allow them motivation to come to you and it will do you’re suddenly think of an idea and if I could do that, and then suddenly you’re inspired to get back into it. And and you get the excitement once again. You can excitement. If I sound a bit croaky today, I think I’ve had coronavirus over the last few days. I’ve been praising praising going to bed we like 15 t shirts on really, really cold and that’s why I’ve got that slightly sexy voice. Okay, so Gemma Chase, I think what you should do if you can take it over, on the bare minimum just doing what you’re doing. Then just do And then walk away from if you’re in the midst of it. Think about how can you delegate some of that stuff that you don’t want to do? You know, you’re a big time player, you’re somebody who’s a creator, everyone who starts a business, I think, is that kind of person. You know, we like the starting point. We like the thought of getting the vision going. But once the visions going, we kind of look around and we think, you know, maybe I do something else. And it’s something that I struggle with a lot to Join Up Dots. Oh, yes, I do. Now Join Up Dots I’ve been doing for years. And I don’t think I will ever walk away from it, you unfortunate people. But I still keep on looking around thinking I should do this. I should do that. Now. I fortunately managed to keep my head in the game and just kept on ploughing forward. But I’m a creator. I like starting things. It’s the sexy time. Okay. And so if you are a creator, maybe it might be best Gemma that you build something else. You know from what you’ve learned so far. Building your baseball cards online business, can you transition that to start something else, and then you’ve got to lots of income coming in, and one can pay the salary of somebody else running both of them. And then you’re starting to get passive income and then you can do something else. You know, I’m fascinated by building businesses that don’t need you to be part of it. Now, I’ve got a business like that to a point, literally two days a week, I have to do it. But the rest I’m totally you know, I can do one on one whenever I want. I can just float around like an only present spirit, and just just live my life and enjoy myself. A lot of people get caught up in the weeds of building a business. So if you’re struggling in that regard, Gemma jot down what you like about your business, not just oh, well, I’m making money. Oh, my new shoes. Think about why do you actually like making the money? What does it Keep you you know, why does it make you feel good? And then think about the things that you don’t like about it? And can you delegate them out? Can you move them out to somebody else might lose a bit of your profit, but you gain more free time and you can get more motivation and inspiration to create something else. So you don’t lose in the long run. You really don’t, you can just push through so that would be my advice to Gemma, I would say to you, if you get bored of it, just have a break. Just Just go off and make love on the mountain. And and then when you come back, hopefully you’ll feel better and you allowed a motivation to come to you but motivation can’t be forced. It’s got to be something that actually comes to you. But Gemma chase from Montana. Well done,
Unknown Speaker [9:47]
well done creating

your own business that is making money you found something that people value and you can provide that value. That’s a business Simple as that. Simple as that. Right. Okay. Oh me, I’ll throw it’s a bit sore. Right. Okay, so who’s the next one from a Vince plus doesn’t say where he’s from, but the Vince is the Ba ba ba boom. Right? Okay. Hi, David. He says, Hi, David, from somebody who is late to the game, the podcast game of podcast, I would love to start my own and build a next little business from the back of my garden like you. Okay? I don’t have a garden at the moment. But hey, I don’t have a business either. Okay, my issue is I can’t think of what to build my business on. And secondly, I’m a bit scared as I’m a longtime sucker of depression. I’ve never been, I have been diagnosed as bipolar. And although I have it under control, there were times that I can’t even get out of bed. Do I sound like someone that can light up the airwaves like you do every day? Vince? Plus, I don’t think you have to light up the airwaves. And I think you have to create content which is relevant and honest for a better listener. Now Join Up Dots. is hopefully very motivational, very inspirational. And I know that my job is to light a fire under people out there. So that a finally go. I reckon I could do this. I reckon I could do this. I’ve listened to enough episodes, but I am now going to make it happen. Now. I don’t think, you know, if you sort of got onto the airwaves and when I’m bipolar, I am bipolar. You know, I don’t think people would like that. That might be a word. You know, I don’t know anybody who’s bipolar at all.
I actually made a joke about bipolar. I thought it was funny. I just said, You know, I think I’m bipolar. Every time I go out to the shops, I come back with a bag of ice and a polar bear. Okay. And my brother, the other people laughed, you know, my prophet got really upset about it. And so he said, You should know more about it. And I don’t, I don’t and so I apologise, I apologise. But if you know your audience and your audience, one, that kind of thing, then give it to them. And the beauty about podcast is when you’re feeling down, you can share that, you know, you create an audience. Some of my most powerful episodes are the ones when I’m not being all positive and enthusiastic. Well, I’m just saying, I’m having a really crap time, guys, you know, I’m just normal. Some of the episodes recently have been live, and I’m still in it, and I’m going to be in it who are in years now. But hey, what can you do? But I get responses from those because they touch a nerve with the people. I don’t get too many responses. When I’m being enthusiastic and positive people just listen and sort of embrace it, but I know it’s the right way to do it for my business and for the show. So that’s what I do. But if you are somebody that’s having a bad time, you know, it would be perfectly acceptable thing, but you could say, Sorry, guys, I didn’t do a show last week because I had a bad episode and this is what I did to get through it. You know, and And be honest and raw and open and enthusiastic when you’re feeling enthusiastic and, and not. And whip, something like that if you’re somebody that is becoming a leader in the field of bam. And there’s people with, you know, bipolar and huge depression around the world, people look to you as somebody that can help them and you can create income. Now, I don’t want to sound harsh on this. But business is about providing value. And it’s about solving problems. So if there’s somebody out there that’s listening to you, and they’ve got the same issues, they will reach out and you can start one to one coaching. You can do more mentoring, you can do whatever, you can build a business when the problem is out there already. The issue that people have is they create podcasts about things where there’s no issue, and people just listen to it and they say thank you very much, you know, and that’s good. But if there’s a big issue and you’re basing around that, then you can make money. So Vince, please I would say to you, you don’t have to light up the airwaves, you just have to be honest. You just have to be enthusiastic. When you feel like it. You have to speak from the heart to your listeners so that they can feel connected to you and build a business that word. Okay? Now if you want any help on getting a podcast up and running, I do emphasise to everybody the amount of people that I have that come across saying, I want podcast training, and I literally knock them back and say to them, Look, you can’t really make a podcast work unless you’ve got the business setup. First of all, let’s get the business setup. And more often than not guys, become my business coaching people and I go through my eight weeks calls, then we add a podcast on it and it sort of like it fires it fires like an engine. But you can’t really just create something if you haven’t got the funnels, the structure, everything in place, but Vince just drop me a line you can come over to Join Up Dots book a time. I’m happy to speak to you. Okay. Oh, I do apologise. really losing it in there. Okay. Hi everybody at Join Up Dots. This is from who’s is from Marcus in Miami. Hi everybody at Join Up Dots. What’s up? Well, I’m not very well at the moment so not matching up with me physically, but I’m on I’m on Marcus, thanks very much for asking. I’m a 52 year gay man from Miami gay and proud of it. And I want to create a gay business that celebrates everything well. My friends say this is a bad idea as no matter how much improvement there has been with acceptance, there will always be some people that get upset by our lifestyles. What do you think? I want to call it gay days where gays stay in play markers Miami well, gay days where gay you stay in place sounds like the kind of boarding houses I mean, sounds like a hotel but you Bobby’s got the idea in your head, man.
It doesn’t matter what you do as a business, you will have people that slack you off, you will have people that hate you. You have people that love you. It’s just what business is. Now, if you think there’s a market bear for whatever products that you’re selling, then I would say go for it, I would go for it. Because although I gotta be really careful here, I don’t want to offend anyone. But I’m gonna say, it seems to me that the gay fraternity is spreading bigger and bigger and bigger. Certainly for when I was a kid, there was no gay kids at all. Nobody mentioned it. They didn’t even know it was a being in the 70s. But now my kids say, Oh, yeah, that kid at school was gay in this and I think well, good on them that they’re brave enough to, you know, to come out at school because I don’t think in the 70s you would do you wouldn’t have said anything. Now, it still seems to me a minority. I think it’s wrong in many ways that people actually had to say You know, their sexuality, who cares who gives a monkey’s is it’s up to you. You know, I don’t say I don’t say, you know, I’m right up to shagging, you know, whatever. And it’s just accepted. And I think it’s wrong. I think he’s wrong, but it’s still a minority. And if anyone gets upset by me saying it’s a minority, I apologise, but it’s just what I feel. Now, with a minority business, you obviously have people that are more passionate and more focused on finding it if it’s not prevalent, and I can’t think of many gay businesses around my area. I can’t think of gay hairdressers or gay whatever. So around here, I don’t know whether might the area that I’m in. You don’t see many gays and lesbians at all. Hardly ever. So you’ve got to know your area. What I’m saying to you Marcus is yet go through it. If it’s a business that you think there’s enough clientele, that’s wanting it go Britt, don’t be worried about people hating you. I get slagged off all the time. I really do. And it’s funny, I was speaking to a guy today. And he was saying, Oh, you know, what if I get a bad review, and I said, don’t worry about it. I said, I get slagged off all the time, by people that actually haven’t ever paid me for anything, that they’re just taking pre content and they feel duty bound to slag me off and say terrible things. My clients, the people that actually buy my services, honestly, I come out at the end, and they’re always mates, they really can’t say much. A nice things about me, you know, because I put so much commitment in so I get it as well, Marcus, I get people slagging me off, saying things about, you just got to get a tough skin. But I would say do your market research, make sure that there’s enough business even if you think it’s a good idea, if there’s not and you’re striving to get people People through the doors, whether it’s online or offline, you’re going to struggle. Now, what I do like about offline businesses is that you can create more of an environment. But that can be translated online as well. I don’t think there’s any difference between offline and online. Except online. It’s a lot cheaper to do. You know, it’s still basically a shop, you’ve got to appeal to people. You’ve got to market your products in the right way. And you’ve got to get people to feel comfortable enough to actually buy. Now in a shop, you’d say, Can I help you and you talk to them a bit, and I’d say, Oh, no, I’m okay. The moment I come back later, it’s a kind of live site sales funnel, you’re nurturing the trust, you’re moving people across the products that you want to sell. Online is a little bit more structured a little bit more difficult, but it’s still the same. So I would say markers go through it. And as I said to everybody else, if you want to speak to me, drop over to Join Up Dots book a time or have a One to One with you. But if you’re a 52 year old gay man from Miami, gay and proud, go out and be gay and be proud. Okay, and create the first gay business that I know. I’ll be part of it. I will be your poster boy we’re doing gay episode. And and we’re putting out to the world once you once you launch Okay, so far I’m Gemma Chase. Vince plus. and Marcus from Miami. Thank you so much for dropping us a line. I love answering these questions. Hopefully it gives you value back hopefully it turns to coax or that that’s slight doubt that you have that’s why you reach out to a point where you’re actually saying Yeah, okay, I can go for this. I can give it a go and, and make something good for myself. Okay, so if anybody is in Reykjavik in Iceland this weekend, and you happen to see me walking around
saying Oh, absolutely. Have to meet some Icelandic people I know got some listeners out there. So yeah, you can you can spot the dots. That’s a it’s gonna be like where’s Wally or Where’s Waldo, though you have in America, where Yeah, I’m gonna be walking around. And you got to I’m not gonna wear red and white stripy top, but you’ve got to see if you can spot me amongst the masses. But until next time, thank you for everybody who’s dropping us a line. Any questions we will answer again next week. Just drop them through to Join Up dots@gmail.com come over to the website. And we will move you forward to where you want to be. Look after yourselves. And I will see you again soon. Cheers. See?

business coaching. Hello, my name is Alan. And I’ve just completed the excellent eight week course with David
Unknown Speaker [21:49]
before I started working with David Actually, I had no idea at all where to start.
Unknown Speaker [21:55]
I had a lot of ideas about what I probably thought was going to be good business, David was out to help me through that day to find that passion. Within literally minutes. We had, we had a business idea. And for the last seven weeks, we’ve been building on it and building on it. And the position I’m in now, I don’t think I’ve ever got here on my own because of the amount of information that David gives the structure. He’s got the full package here, and he explains it in a way that I can understand. His support is phenomenal. I feel like this is the way business is supposed to work. David helped me understand, okay, what was the next logical steps that I should do? How, how can I get this up and running? So I would really recommend this as an excellent course helping you if you have an idea if you have no idea, really teasing that out. And some of the practicalities and steps to take to really launch your business whether as a full time job was a side hustle. So it was really excellent. I recommend it for anybody thinking about setting up their own business. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say David will totally save you years.
