Although I was unsure, you lit the fire under me with your enthusiasm and positivity to the idea. I now have a business up and running making a couple of grand a month.
I yet to have a website, social media or anything going, and started simply by getting leaflets printed and dropping them through doors with my email address.
I just wanted to say thank you for helping me and my family transition to a better life.

Dear David,
From a long term listener of the show, and a lady ready to go for it, i have an idea but need your help.
I can see a need for people in my City (Dallas, Texas) to have their dogs looked after whilst they are at work. There are a lot of very wealthy people in this area, and so I know that they would be willing to pay. However, Im not sure how I can scale this business to give me freetime too.
I dont want to be spending all my time looking after peoples dogs, even though I think this would be fun. Any ideas would be great.

Yes, hello there. Good morning, Good morning to you and welcome to Join Up Dots. Thank you so much for being here.

Itss an absolute delight to have every single one of your sexy little ears, and your sexy little heads. And yes, sexy little bodies being with me now.

David, Ralph is back. Yes. And although I’ve been here, yes, I’ve been here on the show. Of course I have. I’ve been Um, I’ve had some issues. As you know, I’m not going to dwell on that. But all I will say is, once again, thank you for so many people dropping us a line. I will say that we’re still in it. And it’s going to be going for months, maybe years. Who knows. But after a couple of weeks, maybe two or three weeks of kind of losing myself in the in the mix of Oh my God, why is this happened to us and all this kind of stuff? I’ve now got to a point where I’ve just accepted and I’ve just kind of gone. Yes. It’s, it’s, it’s okay. It’s what life is life throws things at you. And you either go, this is terrible, this is rubbish. And Whoa, whoa, whoa, or you kind of just go, Okay, I can learn from this and move on. And I think that we’ve everything and it’s even. I run a show called Join Up Dots when it’s all about looking back at the bad times and bad times good times when you’re far enough away from them. I think with life, you can’t control it. Can you? Even if you think you’re doing you know as well as you can you want to be doing better if you think you want to have more free time and you’re not getting it life is what it is. And so I’m now in an acceptance stage. And yeah, I feel good. I feel good. So thank you once again for everybody who dropped Me lines. I want to drop a line, actually to a lovely lady that I met last night called Amanda Regan. Amanda Regan, she is lovely. She’s so lovely. I actually told her she was lovely on the on the conversation. Now, some people might call that grooming. That’s not grooming. I was just being polite and pleasant. And other people might say something totally different. But she is lovely. She’s in Rome at the moment. She’s building a side hustle, and she’s gonna do some amazing stuff. So Amanda, Amanda, if you’re on your commute, and you’re hearing your name, I like Yeah, I like him. Amanda, you’re good. Well, I’ve got a few emails today from people. I’ve got one from Mexico City, Mexico City. I’ve got one from Albuquerque. Hot Dog, jumping frog , remember that song from the 80s if you don’t and it means nothing when our shit dad or your granddad and the last one is from a Dallas from a lady called Amanda Knox in Dallas Amanda Knox that name rings a bell to do I know Amanda Knox I don’t know the name rings a bell if I if I’ve already spoken to you, Amanda Knox. Thank you for dropping us another line. And if you’re a famous person I don’t know why does Amanda Knox ring a bell anyway? right so let’s start with it. Let’s start with Mexico. D David now I’m not gonna do that. It’s probably quite offensive really to do impressions of other people but it’s it’s kind of enjoyable as well, isn’t it and it’s kind of true. There David. I am a listener from Mexico and I’m very much enjoying your conversations. Well thank you Dennis from Mexico City. That’s not a Mexican name is it always it might be is in one of your recent shows. I was intrigued as to what you meant when you said people don’t buy what you are selling my English is not totally amazing. So could you reconfirm Dennis from Mexico City?

Yeah, I think what what you’re picking up on that, Dennis, it’s something that I talk about a lot. And especially I talk about it in my business coaching that I do with people. People always come to me with an idea of a product to be sold. And I always say to them, people don’t buy what you’re selling, they buy what your thing that they’re selling, is giving them and I’ll give you an example. Okay? If you go into a shop and you buy a coat, although you’re buying a coach, you’re not actually buying the coats, you’re buying what a coat will give you it will give you warmth, it will keep you dry in wet weather, you know, I’m off to Iceland next week, and my wife has gone out and she said you need a thicker coat. I said I’m away. I’ve got a thick coat already. And she said No, that’s too thick. You need one that is is nice, and it’s gonna be okay on the plane and it’s going to be warm and it’s going to be Dr. There. She didn’t really care that it was a coat. She just wanted both things for me. And in business, I think so many people miss back, and I tried to flog the thing that they’re selling, but that’s not it. The thing that they’re setting is just the the thing that gets the people what they want. Okay? So think about that with the with the CO I’ll give you another example. If you and I talk about this all the time, I repeat myself, but who cares is my show and no one can stop me. If you go on to any sort of car site. The car is always driving across a mountain with person smiling, he’s got the music on, he’s got the windows down. And it’s all that that feeling of freedom and adventure, and the car can take you anywhere and it’s a break from the norm. You’re not it’s not a car. It’s what the car can give you. It’s the adventure isn’t the size of freedom every has a reason to buy it. And more often than not, it’s never the thing that you’re selling. I hope that makes sense to you, Dennis. Okay. So people effectively want the feelings, they want the emotion, but they will be buying the thing to get fat. Let’s let’s do some off the top of my head beds. Let’s think about a bed, you got a bad back and so you want your back to feel better. So you buy a bed to give it to you. Now you could buy any bed of course. But if you have a bad back suffer, then you look instantly the beds are going to solve your issue. It takes you from pain to pleasure, okay? You don’t really care about the bed. It’s what is giving you you’re going to wake up every morning feeling good and being able to stretch and not go Oh my God, my back. It’s killing me. And every single thing ties up to that. So if you’re looking at your business and you’re thinking I haven’t got enough emotion in Hey, I haven’t got enough of the benefits in there, you’re going the wrong way, you’ve always got to think about what it’s actually delivering. And it’s not the product itself. Okay? Now, if you want more help on that, then drop me a line. And I do a sort of more detailed podcast episode, but people buy on emotions. They buy it on what it’s going to give them, and then they justify it afterwards. Okay. But it’s the way that online sales and any sales work. Who was that? That was prefab sprout. Back in the day, back in the day. I die up to john from Albuquerque, USA. I wrote to you a few months ago regarding my idea of garriage. clearance assistance that rings a bell john, it certainly does ring a bell. That must be many many months ago. I think. Although I was unsure you lit the fire under me with your enthusiasm and positivity to the idea. That’s what I do, gentlemen. That’s what I do. I light a fire. I relight the fire. If it’s gone out and I light the fire, if it’s ready to go, we’re doing fused gasm and positivity to the idea I now have a business up and running making a couple of grand a month I yet to have a website social media or anything going and started simply by getting leaflets printed and dropping them through doors with my email address. Brilliant. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me and my family transition to a better life. Sometimes you just need a go for it from someone somewhere and you were the man beers on me, john. Now, that is brilliant, isn’t it because I say this over time. But there’s two ways of operating. You know, the thing that I always say is Jesus didn’t have a website. And it’s true. He didn’t because he was too early for it. And businesses have been operating for years and years and years, millenniums. But now we think we have to have a Facebook account, we have to have Twitter, we have to have Instagram. Now, I’m not a believer in all that. And actually, today, I’m going to be talking to a woman who is a big believer, and I’m going to try to get her to convince me otherwise because I think that a lot of social media and stuff is just kind of blasting out to the wrong people. Now, what John’s done which is Britain is he’s gone to, I don’t know a company like vistaprint vistaprint. Here, the ones I use, where you can get 1000 leaflets done and old style, just go and walk around, put it through the door. People will contact him because there’s always going to be people doing it that way. But do need that guy rich, clear and all garage We say garriage you say garage we say potato or you say potato? No, you don’t say potato to you Do you tomato, tomato, Potato Potato over. Let’s call it hoping you can sense you can sense I’m feeling good. I’m back on me. Me old game. No, Ralph, my style is back on. He’s going. So gavage Clements assistance. Yeah. And I think what we were talking about on this one was the fact that there’s a two fold business fair, some people want it to be clear to totally, I’ll just get rid of it. And so you can get rid of it. And then you can sell the stuff on eBay or you can start sort of making money about what other people like that. That Japanese woman, Marie Kondo and when she says,

the place and so you hold something up and you look at this jumper and you go, when was last time I wore this, but does it make me feel sexy? And if it does, you keep it and if it doesn’t, you just love it. Now she’s made millions at just teaching people to Find a place in sort of a load of old rubbish. And so we people have got packed carriages and they want to park their cars in there. There’s gonna be people that go Just take it. And then once you sort through it, you go, this is quite valuable, I could sort of make more money, other people just want to tidy up. So it’s a kind of double win business. And every single one of us in the United Kingdom across the world, we’re surrounded by that guy, which clearance assistance business, you could do it in your own town and you could get it up and running. It would not make a blind bit of difference to john, because john is in Albuquerque. You could be the next town along from Albuquerque. I don’t know what that is. We call it jumping frog jumping frog USA. And you could instantly make a living as well. You don’t tread on anyone’s toes with these ideas but people share with you. So well done, john well done. And yeah, anyway that I can help but brilliant. That’s really that’s really infused me that’s got me back firing on all cylinders. Now the last one what we got here dear David from a long term oh this is Amanda Knox I’m actually gonna Google Amanda Knox is Amanda Knox famous. Let me have a look. Why do I know Amanda Knox? Amanda right. Okay. Amanda Marie Knox is an American woman who spent almost four years in an Italian prison the following a conviction for the murder. Oh, I remember her now. Yes, I’m kind of student Wasn’t she some student who got accused of murder of in the chicken outfit and Ben she was challenged again or something? I don’t know. But yeah, I hope you well, even if you are Amanda, if you are about Amanda Knox been learned from your mistakes. You don’t go around killing people or getting involved in those kind of shunning shenanigans, because it won’t work. It won’t work. Anyway. David from a longtime listener of the show, when did she go to prison? Because she might be that woman when she go in prison. 2007 Wow, she’s had a lot of free time on her hands. So it might be the same woman who’s been laying in prison in Italy, listening to Join Up Dots. She says I’m from a longtime listener of the show and a lady ready to go. It rhymes. I have an idea but need your help. I can see a need for people in my city of Dallas, Texas. I’ve been to Dallas, Texas, been there several times good place to have their dogs looked after whilst we’re at work. Okay. Yep. So a lot of people love their dogs. And really, you know, I know people that actually pay in London, to they take the dogs to work and then once they get there to the office, they get somebody to pick the dog up, and then take it down to the park, play with it all day in the park and then when they bring it back, the people sort of walk out of the office and the dogs waiting there for them. practicality Well, I don’t know how you sort of arrange that the person’s working late and stuff. But anyway, that’s what they do.

There are a lot of very wealthy people in this area and so I know that they will be willing to pay. However, I’m not sure how I can scale the business to give me free time to I don’t want to be spending all my time looking after people’s dogs, even though I think this would be fun. Any ideas would be great. Amanda Knox. Yeah, the key thing to bear is, all these businesses seem great at the time, but once you sort of really get into it, it becomes problematic. One of the things that I do in my business coaching, I get people to define the business in in regards to what you’re actually offering and whether it works for you. Because if you listen to an episode with Jeremy slate recently, he said one of his first business ideas was that he would get the people’s podcasts up and running. He would edit them he would build the website and once he did it twice, he thought, oh my god, this is terrible. I’m Gonna be here all the time? Why did I set this up? And so what we need to do, we need to think about the lifestyle that we want. And we need to then be able to transition it to provide something to these people that they will pay for but also keeps us the lifestyle that we want. Okay? Make sense? So like with Join Up Dots, I generally only do my coaching on a Friday, okay? Sometimes Sunday evening, because I don’t really do much on a Sunday evening. So if somebody wants that, and it works works for me as well. But I very much base my life around what I want first and foremost, and then I transition it to the point where I can offer stuff and I think, okay, I can offer that because it still works for me. Now, with your dog walking, first of all, yes, I imagine these people very rich people will pay for that. So you’ve got to decide on how you’re going to do it. So very first thing is, think about your lifestyle. Amanda and think about how many days off you want How many days away from docs you want and then start building the product that way and then think to yourself okay, if these people are paying premium, which probably in Dallas, Texas the oil people I will jr Ewing himself I went to South bulk ranch once I was extremely hung over I I got really drunk the night before because I got engaged my my wife asked me to marry I was never gonna ask her and I said yes, I said yes. And when I got really drunk because I thought oh my god while I’ve done that now now it’s the best thing ever. The best thing ever my wifey lava to bits. But at the time, I wasn’t ready to be married. And so I was in Amarillo, Texas, and I got so drunk that the next morning we should have been in Dallas, Texas, I can’t even remember what the distance between it but effectively we didn’t get there till the next day. And I should have been at southfork at nine o’clock in the morning and I managed to get there for five o’clock and almost threw up in one of the The toilets in the place anyway. Miss Ellie’s toilet if you remember going back in time but Dallas, Texas, Jr. Ewing?

What was I talking about? Ba ba ba ba Oh yeah, building the business. Okay. So you look at it and you think to yourself, what can I do? First of all, what can I do that is just me that will give me the lifestyle. So just say for example, you need to have all your bills covered. And that’s $2,000. Okay, just get that as the bigger I don’t know what your expenses are. Think to yourself, what can I actually offer? That gives me the lifestyle but people will pay $2,000 for Okay, that’s your first bit and then think to yourself, okay, if I’m earning $2,000 from this, okay, what happens if I pay somebody $500 to do this? And then I keep the 1500 Okay, once you’re a company owner, more often than not, you can keep the bulk of the money. You know, you don’t have to think you’ve got to do it all yourself. You can think how can I train somebody else to do this baby will be grateful for the work. And if you pay them fairly, Ben, it’s fine. across the world, you’ve got people that you can pay fairly. And it’s like, you know, slave labour for the United Kingdom and America where you have to pay so much more. But if you hire somebody from the Philippines, you can be really, really fair to them. But you don’t have to pay them half as much as you would for somebody in America, Australia, or the United Kingdom. Now with dogs, I would think that there would be sort of teenagers, students that would have free time that they could do it. So they might even be able to take ships. So adult could be looked after all day where somebody looks after him in the morning, and then they take him down to somebody else. And then they look after him in the afternoon. So the people are getting what they want, but it means it frees you up. So I always say do the first one yourself and then see what works, but then see how you can get another one and hand it to somebody else to do And I think the morning and afternoon kind of shift would be a good idea on this. You keeping the bulk of the money and somebody getting a payment for walking dogs or looking after dogs or whatever, okay, but, Amanda, as always, if you want some more help, I’m more than happy to give you a half hour. You just need clients, and if it’s the cheapest way and the easiest way to simply print up some leaflets with telephone number and email address and say if you’re interested in this, contact us, then that will work. It’s not all about building online traffic and websites and social media. We’ve always got to go for the simple route First of all, and then build from there.
