Or is it just another.on the way to the dream? Well, let’s find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr. Chat GPT himself, Mr. Collins, Scotland. Good morning, Colin, how are you?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [2:51]
Hey, David, I am wonderful. Thank you so much. It’s a joy to be here and chat with you today.
David Ralph [2:56]
Now, is it actually you? Or is it artificial intelligence that I’m speaking to?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [2:59]
This is not an AI avatar that I’ve just created? No, no, no, it’s genuinely me.
David Ralph [3:04]
Because I was sent a podcast. I’ve said this on the show that this guy said to me, Oh, I was listening to this the other day, sent it to me. And if I don’t remember this, it was me AI where he taken all the Join Up Dots episodes, put it into a system. And it just sounded like me, you know, like they do with John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and all these kinds of people. Crazy times.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [3:25]
It’s phenomenal, isn’t it? There’s a Joe Rogan podcast with Joe Rogan. And Sam Altman, the CEO of open AI, and it’s the the voice, the script, the everything is done purely by AI to fit a fictional episode. It’s amazing.
David Ralph [3:41]
Nowadays, is it amazing because we see it in films now we see that deep fake technologies coming out. We’re seeing that their strikes in Hollywood because they’re worried about having dead actors performing in the future on films and stuff. Is it something that in a business sense, we should be frightened of? Or should we embrace it? Are the positives outweigh the negatives? For somebody who is an online entrepreneur?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [4:14]
I think it’s a great question. The reality is those we always have to have caution, right. So we always have to have an an eye on Well, look, I’m putting my data into this thing, what’s happening to my data, and there’s an element of there’s an element of reality check with this. And so I don’t disagree with a lot of that conversation out there. But at the same time, just what you’ve described about that podcast, let’s face it, it’s awe inspiring to know that the possibilities, the things that we can now do with our creativity because of AI. That, to me is just overwhelmingly positive. In principle, Dave,
David Ralph [4:55]
because I thought when when the guy said, Are you frightened up or No, I’m not right. It just means I can do 2000 podcast episodes and not be there. You know, it’s, I just saw the positive side of it. And, to me, there’s nothing frightening about it. Certainly from business point of view, it aids to the creativity. It aids aids to that, that that’s stifling point where you just can’t see the wood for the trees. And I use chat GPT a lot to get clarity on subjects and to bind areas to develop deeper, but I can provide a better service to my listeners and to my clients is ultimately me, but it’s my kickstart. And I think that chat GBT is a kickstart What do you think?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [5:47]
Couldn’t agree more? I think chat GBT is an accelerant. When I was a young lad, I used to love the film Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox. Right. And to me chat, GBT is dock rolling up in the carpark doors or the DeLorean fling open and he kind of gets out going Mari Smith a future needs you. Right. The chat GBT is Doc and that DeLorean, it’s the accelerant that allows us to go at 8.8 miles an hour, and go into the future faster. That to me is the epitome of what church UBT allows us to do in, in life in business now.
David Ralph [6:18]
Now, why do you think it’s suddenly taken on so quickly? Is it a laziness? Because I saw that it was crashed the other day. And somebody tweeted, oh my God, I’ve now got to use my brain. And I thought I can see your point, mate. But you’re missing the point. What what do you think?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [6:39]
I think that that scene in Wally, right, where all the humans are living in a spaceship, and they’re all really fat and floating on hovered over desks, looking at screens all day, there is an element of
David Ralph [6:51]
anything open. And what watch films Colleen is.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [6:56]
I’m a film buff, right? But then if you think about it, there’s that it’s the way that you look at it, isn’t it. So you mentioned about fear. And you look at it and you go man, I can do 2000 podcasts, I can be faster, I can be quicker, I can go you know, into the future faster with with this tool, or you can look at it and go, This tool will replace me. So I don’t need to do any work. Now, this tool can do all of the work for me. And there’s a nuance in that there’s a difference in the way that you’re looking at it. So if you’re looking at it as a replacement a This can mean I can literally kick back, watch movies all day on Netflix, an AI will do all of the work, that’s the wrong way to look at it. It’s an accelerant of you, it’s the battery on the ebike that allows you to do 14 miles an hour instead of 12 or 15. It’s but you’re still pedalling. It’s the accelerant of what you’re doing. And I think that that’s the subtle difference here. It’s not that if you have the laziness mentality of this will take away everything I’m doing, you’re always going to fall flat,
David Ralph [7:59]
because you’ve got to understand who you’re aiming at. But this is the thing, isn’t it. And I know this is something that you’re big at identifying your ideal client, all these platforms won’t mean anything to anyone, if they’re not producing the right bit of content for the right person. So let’s talk about that. First of all, somebody’s out there, they’re thinking of starting doing a business, they’re seeing all these AI things bursting around, and they’re going, Oh, this is good. I can create a blog in 10 times the speed. Slow down, slow down. First of all, what is your end goal? And who are you talking to? Would you say that be the big question to start with?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [8:41]
I think it always is, isn’t it if we we can always busy ourselves doing this, that and the other and running around like headless chickens in a sense. If we’re not clear on what it is that we’re doing, why that we’re doing it, and the journey that we’re on where we’re headed in that, then we could pile in an infinite amount of money into our bank account wouldn’t wouldn’t make us make a difference in us achieving that goal, you have to have clarity on what that is. And then when you have clarity on that, you can then identify the people that would care the people that it would benefit. That’s the beginnings of this, rather than, Oh, let’s just bring AI in because I can now put my feet up and never have to work again.
David Ralph [9:24]
Now I know a lot of people struggle to create an avatar of their customer because they think well, I don’t know, I don’t know. So they come out with a sort of very vague one. And what we do a lot of is we get people to go on to Facebook forums and sort of look at the profiles and understand the age and the sort of demographics and sort of really sort of position it by seeing real life examples. Now, is this something that now we can just throw it into chat GPT or do we have to learn how to use it? Do we? Is that the key thing Have it, you’ve got to learn how to use it to get the right information out.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [10:05]
To a degree, it’s important that you’ve got to, you’ve got to know how to instruct it in the right way, right. So if the conductor of an orchestra puts his hands down and doesn’t wave the baton, the music’s not going to sound and nobody’s going to hear anything. So you have to learn how to wave the button. But beyond some simple strokes, it’s not difficult. Once you understand the simple strokes, then the music plays beautifully. And the music will astound you every single time. So there’s a degree of of learning involved. But in essence, you can do just what you said, you can go into chat GPT. And you can ask it for clarity on who my target audience is, what my what their pains are, what their emotional drivers are, and how I can then create a solution to those pains. It really is that simple.
David Ralph [10:54]
One of the things that I got into it, early days is creating prompts and creating prompts that gets stronger and stronger and stronger. And I didn’t get this myself, I was on YouTube. And I saw this guy. And he gave us the text for a chat GPT prompt. And what we mean by a prompt is basically instructions to the system to give us certain information out. And this one was a bit of text at the end it said, and we want to continue going until I tell you otherwise. So you put the prompt in and use to tell it what you want. And many ask you more questions. And then you say, Oh, that’s good. And then you answer those questions when it asks you more questions. And when you get to a point where you think I couldn’t possibly think this, this is asking me stuff that it’s taking it into a total different direction. But what it’s doing is helping you niche down and niche down and niche down. So that becomes more and more accurate. Now, to me, that is like a godsend. That is like, you know, Jesus sitting by the side of me helping me out that there’s somebody that saying, effectively, no, you can do better than this. You can do better keep on going keep on going keep on going. Now, when’s enough? Because I look at it, sometimes I get fed up with ask answering these questions. I’ll just go with this. You know, is that good enough? Or should you just keep going keep going?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [12:27]
I think once you go down that rabbit hole of that whole iteration, like prompt chaining conversation after conversation and refining, you’ll hit there’s a law called the diminishing law of returns, right? And what happens is you put effort in and you get the result back. But at some point, the amount of effort that you put in in the amount of stuff that you get back is reduced to the point where it’s not worth putting the effort in in the first place. And I think what I’m seeing with these because I live in chat, GBT, right? At some point, even the AI begins to starve, like going back over old ground or seeing the same, you can only say the same thing so many times. And I guess I get a sense that you’ve you feel that, you know, we’ve exhausted this so often, I’ll track back in a conversation thread. And and revert to something that happened 1616 iterations ago. And I guess you have to develop an intuitive sense of that. The reality is what we’ve what you’ve got to be mindful of is that you use the AI as a tool to get you where you want to be not the other way around. So you can’t just live in the AI in perpetuity in perpetuity, there has to be a point where you take the essence of what it’s giving you and use it to get where you want to go.
David Ralph [13:41]
Right. Okay, so So it needs human common sense. It needs us to go Enough is enough.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [13:48]
Definitely. And I think that’s a key components of all of this. You are the conductor with the baton, waving the button at the orchestra. And so if we forget that, that’s when we get lost down the rabbit hole, if you give it a job to do, and be very specific about that job. Give it the situ, I have an acronym called Star, right? So give it the situation. Hey, I’m David, I run a podcast called Join Up Dots where we help
David Ralph [14:15]
entrepreneurs successful podcast success. You missed that word.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [14:18]
Sorry, David, I apologise. So you give it the situation you share with Jack GPT the pattern of who you are, what context it’s operating in. Because it it’s a pattern recognition machine, right? It’s not it’s not a human, it’s not intelligent in that sense. It’s just very good at recognising patterns. And so you give it the patterns by telling it, who you are, what the situation is what you’re looking to do. I’m looking to refine my niche my avatar and understand their pains and problems. And so now you give it the task or situation task, appearance refinement, super simple task, I’d like you to share with me some of the pains and problems that my audience face when it comes to building a business online during the whole entrepreneurship thing, I’d like the result to be formatted in a table with the target audience groups, their pains and potential ways that I can help them through episodes in the podcast. And now you’ve given Chuck GPT, the result format that you want. And then you go into the bit that you mentioned the refinement phase, so you get the results out, and then you’ll go, this is good. But, you know, that’s completely off the mark that one, there’s something in that let’s explore that further chat GBT. And this is where you can go into that whole refinement iteration process to really get to that point where I mean, I joked yesterday with one of my mastermind groups, I literally have to search around the floor to find the top of my head because it blows off like multiple times in a day, you know, with with the stuff that it’s comes out with, it’s just phenomenal.
David Ralph [15:49]
And it’s the speed that it comes out with it, you don’t just click it, and four minutes later, it literally does it instantly. I look at how I’ve run Join Up Dots for 10 years. And I already think to myself, How did I do it? You know, for example, you know, technology moves on, and I’m gonna sound like an old guy here. But I was saying to my kids, I used to go to away games for football matches in in the sort of like late 80s and early 90s and stuff. And there was no internet, you know, so you didn’t know where the grounds were, you just would drive to Liverpool and then put into a petrol station, and then ask somebody where it is. And then you would just sort of find your way there. And I feel like that’s how I’ve been running Join Up Dots. Up to now I feel that the technology has suddenly gone. Hey, guys, we’re going to show you how to really do it, and the knowledge of content that I can provide to help my listeners, it’s just exponential to what I was doing before, I was literally opening the window and saying, What should I talk about next. But now I’ve got about 600 700 potential podcast episodes. But I know I’ve got listeners dropping me lines all the time. It’s just like a content. Tsunami, really, against that struggle of content, which used to wear you out a few years ago, where a lot of people would dry up because they just couldn’t keep going now it’s almost I’m drowning under it, you know, what should I do next? So my question in that long sort of like, lead up to is, when you’ve got all this information at your fingertips? What is the thing that you should do next? And I’m going to hear out produce this man, I’m going to ask you, Colin,
Oprah Winfrey [17:39]
the way through the challenge is to get still and ask yourself, what is the next right move? not think about, oh, I got all of this stuff. What is the next right move? And then from that space, make the next right move, and the next right move, and not to be overwhelmed by it. Because you know, your life is bigger than that one moment, you know, you’re not defined by what somebody says, is a failure for you. Because failure is just there to point you in a different direction.
David Ralph [18:10]
So we have all this information. She sort of says just go quiet and think about it. What’s your starting point? For a listener out there who’s thinking of starting to do a blog or some kind of online business? What would be the starting point to get the most out of chat, GBT?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [18:28]
I think what we touched on earlier is having that clarity of what it is that you’re looking to achieve and why you’re looking to achieve it the purpose of bringing this message into the world, because you have to have that that clarity and that unity of what it is that you’re doing. Once you’ve got that the wonderful things that chat GBT produces for you fit in perfect alignment with that reason for the thing that you’re doing. So if it’s podcast, podcast, Episode, ideas and titles, then bringing that podcast to the world is your vehicle to getting that message out. So you, you focus on the steps, the implementation steps and actually chat GBT can be a great, a great tool in that as well. So you’ve got all of these content ideas now for your business for your new podcast or your blog, or whatever it is that you’re creating, use chat GBT to help with the implementation steps. So just like I would as a coach, we would map out what is that next, next next best action that Oprah talks about? What is that for you? What do you do today? What do you do this afternoon? What do you do tomorrow? And what does the next three weeks look like? Or the next six weeks? You can map these things out in chat GBT and have that give you practical steps. So today, we’re going to prep some outlines. Tomorrow. We’re going to record some content the day after we’re going to do some editing, and all of a sudden your calendar fills up with those baby steps that are going to get you towards that big goal.
David Ralph [20:00]
So so you don’t just have to use it to provide sort of lists. You can actually it will print tables out and sort of marketing plans. And yeah,
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [20:11]
the best way to do it is to have a have a collection of things that make up your world, right? So so who am I? Why do I do what I do? What’s the what’s my reason for being? What are the skills? What am I good at? What makes me unique in what I do? Have have chat GBT create a USP for you a paragraph of, hey, I’m David, I do a very successful podcast called Join Up Dots. And this is hugely, hugely successful, right? This is the iteration process. So that becomes your Sony
David Ralph [20:47]
deonna. I’m so needy.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [20:49]
I love it. I love it. But that becomes your, your, your USP, your when you’re instructing chat GPT in the future, because it doesn’t remember one chat to the next it goes completely blank it as amnesia doesn’t remember that your David that runs a hugely successful podcast, and on the next chat, you have to tell it again. So I have these things like, at the moment, it’s just text in text out. So I have these things listed in a Google Doc, and I’ll just copy and paste, hey, I’m calling. Here’s my USP bang, drop that in, here’s my target audience, bang, drop that in. So those things have been created with me and chat GPT in concert in the first place, but then I’ve got them to drop in. So you can do the same thing with all areas of this. So the USP, who you are, how you serve people, what your what your target, who your target audience is, what their pains are, how you solve those pains. And then all of these things become when I was a kid, I was obsessed with Legos, right? So all of these things become Lego blocks in your business. Whether it’s idea or whether it’s an established business doesn’t doesn’t matter that the process the concept is identical. They become Lego blocks in the business, and you just stack one on top of the other. Here’s who I am. Here’s my avatar, here’s what I do. Here’s how I solve it. Here’s what makes me unique. Now, ChatGPT helped me to cake create a plan where I implement this and dominate the world or do whatever it is that I’m going to do. And chat, GPT actually can help you at every iteration, not just the production of content. I think that’s one of the biggest things that that people are like a misconception everybody’s chatGPT is burst onto the scene. And the first thing everybody’s seen is write blog posts. Make video, you know, do this, make this content, write this marketing copy. And it’s literally a drop in the ocean as to what you can do.
David Ralph [22:42]
I saw this. So you have to test it because I haven’t used it myself. But I saw somebody saying, but when they create profiles, instead of keeping it in Google Docs and dropping it each time, just actually say to chat, GBT, I want you to store this in my chat. GBT profile my account for use whenever I want it. And so you can actually like programme it to store this information in it. So it’s fair all the time.
HATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [23:11]
That’s really interesting. I’ve not heard that. So I’ll need I’ll check that out. And need to make a note to myself to check that one out. David? Yeah, it
David Ralph [23:17]
was only on YouTube. And a guy was doing you know, with YouTube, you watch five minutes of a nine minute video and you move on to something else. But that was the one thing I thought is interesting. So you can just actually keep on telling it to store it in there for future use. Right. So so let’s move it away from chat GBT. But also keep it as well, because I’m interested in the pivot in your business. Because the last time you came on the show, you were very much marketing. And now your marketing focused on using this, which, as you say, accelerates the business. It speeds up everything. Now, what was it about this? And not anything else? Because there’s hundreds of them out there at the moment. So what was it about this that got your juices going?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [24:02]
I love coaching helping people so my mission My purpose is helping others to shine their light brighter in the world, right? So I love that concept of Indras net where we’re all bright shining jewels, and when one jewel dials up the brightness, we all are lit brighter in the reflection. So the connectedness of all things the fact that when I help you to shine bright, I shine brighter in your reflection. That’s my kind of driving purpose. I’ve always done that through the lens of marketing and business and online business to date. And it kind of felt to me like I was sat on a beach in the sand looking at the blue sky going well. How great is this right and living the dream in terms of being on purpose doing the thing that I want? And then I experienced the capabilities of chat GPT when the version 3.5 came out And it literally was like me sitting up on the beach and seeing a big giant tsunami wave come in. I seen the wave come in. And I realised that this is going to change everything. As a coach, I can share with you how to write a compelling email sequence. I can give you templates, I can give you examples, I can show you what I do. You still have to sit and write that thing out for yourself. Right. So that’s where the coaching process can fall down with chat, GBT, you give it the right instructions, you wave the baton in the right way. And the stuff that it creates is mind blowing, literally mind blowing, I can’t coach you in that way. So it to me, it was just like a dawning realisation that that wave is coming. And I’ve got one of two choices, I can either stare up at the blue sky, completely oblivious, just enjoying the sun and the sun, and get swallowed up by the wave and see what happens. Or I can grab my board and go and paddle out and see what happens there and adapt and change and, and see how now I can bring all of that goodness that the AI brings all of that wonder all of that inspiration, creative flow content, till the cows come home, and how I can use that to help people shine their light brighter, faster, quicker. And that’s kind of where I’m at with it right now. I’m just on the cusp of that.
David Ralph [26:30]
Now, the key thing to you, what you’re saying is, yeah, this accelerates. But if you’re accelerating a real crappy car, you’re not gonna get much faster until it blows up, you’ve got to have a clean system behind the scenes. And I think that’s one of the things that the majority of people are putting my hands up here struggled with, at the beginning, was understanding the part of the iceberg on an online business that wasn’t visible, seeing the things that are operating behind the scenes, seeing the campaigns and the triggers, and the sales funnels and the lead generation and all that kind of stuff. Is this once again, when you’re coaching somebody and you’re saying, look, I think I should bring this in, do you start with but we need to do a house clean. First we need to look at your business, and really understand what’s going on and what’s not going on. Because otherwise this won’t make a blind bit of difference.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [27:28]
100%, you’ve, you’ve got to have your house in order, do the house clean that you mentioned you have to have there’s no point, there’s no point bringing 1000 people into your shop, if your shelves are empty, or you’ve got no till or your doors locked, or, you know, whatever it is, that’s going to cause that activity, that thing that you’re doing to just fall away and not be not be an accelerant or be an accelerant. But off into the distance into the opposite direction that you’re looking to go. So it makes sense, therefore then to to put your house in order first, to have the capacity. One of the things I learned building an E commerce business, is the concept of what it takes to scale. And what it takes to scale is systems, people and processes. If you focus on those three things, whether you are a solopreneur, or you’ve got a team, a big small team, or you’re just getting started, how are you going to you know, live that dreams, the dream is seven hit seven figures, or seven figures a month, whatever it is, how are you going to do that? How are you going to service enough clients and at what price and at what what what infrastructure? Do you need to fulfil that? You got like service delivery elements. With me it was ecommerce we were shipping out boxes, so I could get 100 orders. But I could only ship 50 I could get 1000 orders. But then when I levelled up a level up the production to ship 100 orders. And then we got 500 and it’s like oh no what we’re going to do now we’re still we’re still stuck. So unless you can, you can service the clients and the traffic and the business when you get it. There’s no point just hunting after the front end kind of doing things the wrong way around. So I think it makes great sense to have the right foundation of those systems processes and people and again, chat GPT I can’t help it. I have to mention it in almost every conversation these days. But chat GPT can help with that. So how do I build an infrastructure that allows me to effectively create content, schedule the content and engage with my audience online in a systematised way that means I can focus on growing the business. So yet these things are so powerful, so important.

Now, I will come back to the scheduling so just remind me on that but one of the things that I thought was very impressive on your your website is the amount of coaching that your output to do by creating chat GPT bought, where and I’ve actually put in stupid things. I went over it and typed in silly things to just see what would come up and it will come up and say, No, I don’t know what the football scores are because I’m a marketing coach in don’t ask me stupid questions, really. And I thought to myself, now this is amazing. But people can get free coaching. Before they even get on your, your calendar, which is a game changer, you know, from the days before where you’d have to have little sessions with people, you’re already doing most sessions before they even get to the next stage. Now, did you see that elsewhere? Was that problematic? Because I know a lot of people will look at these things and go, Yeah, that’s brilliant. But how the hell do I start?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [30:48]
It was really simple. In its essence, obviously, there’s a bit of technical stuff goes on that creates it because you have to train it on all of the content, all of the data, all of the stuff that I’ve said and done in the past out in the public domain. And actually, the first thing that came to me was an email from somebody on my email list when I announced it saying, Ooh, Danger, Will Robinson another film reference Danger, Will Robinson danger, you know, about training, chat GPT on data that then you know, is it ethically use all of these things? But ultimately, the concept of having a flavour of and it’s transparent, it’s called an AI, right? It’s the AI version of colonies.
David Ralph [31:34]
That’s an interesting question. You wanted to make that transparent? So they didn’t, because you go over to Summit, and you’re not sure if you’re talking to a real person or not.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [31:42]
Exactly, exactly. But the interesting thing that the AI allows you to do with in this instance, is it gives you because it’s trained on all of my blog posts, all of my content, everything that I’ve ever said and done about marketing and online business. It knows all of that. So if you ask it a question about a value ladder, or finding your niche and things like that, it speaks in for the most part, my language using my phraseology, using my terms that I’ve kind of created and worked on over the years. And so it gives you a flavour of what it would be like to work with me for one, but also it gives people that genuine help up front, that maybe aren’t necessarily in a position to pay money to join a coaching programme or a mastermind group. So it’s it for me, it really does serve multiple purposes it I’m a great believer in putting my best foot forward in that I try to lead with value and be genuinely helpful in the things that I put out. Not just hey, here’s this cool thing. Now come and buy my product. Yeah, that that baloney stuff that you see out there. It’s all veiled. Right? Everything’s, it annoys me. But that’s another rabbit hole. We won’t go down.
David Ralph [32:54]
get annoyed. Let’s see that side of you. Yeah, but
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [32:57]
that like veiled, you know, Oh, yes. Would you like this? six figures a month of business and this and that, and the other and you literally sat on a hammock sipping cocktails, and they just, it’s all smoke and mirrors, and it’s all just a ruse to get you to part with your cash. And that, like, frustrates the hell out of me, David, it really does. It’s like, spin people fall for it. Because they you don’t know that you don’t know. And I think I think I shock people in a good way, in a sense, because they’ll come to me and they’ll see, you know, all of my videos, my free courses my the bot now on the on the website. And it’s like, how you doing this? Right? You’re giving all of this away? How are you making money? Right? Because the light not that they’re not used to genuine Lee and helped upfront in that way. And I try and make it you know, they tell me it’s refreshing. I try and stick with that, because and that was born out of my frustration when I was trying to find my way is looking at, man, there’s just so much stuff out there. And I believe you I buy into you, I think you’re you’ve got the answer for me. And then all of a sudden, it’s Colin, give me five grand now. Colin, give me seven grand now, Colleen give me 10 grand now. And it’s like, oh, so actually, all of that good stuff you were giving me was just a means to an end for you. It wasn’t that you genuinely care about me and my wellbeing and my betterment. Right? That’s the difference.
David Ralph [34:25]
That is the difference. And that’s one of the things that I you know, I shared with you when I first connected you your whole business is about heart and caring. And you know, I probably you’ve never said that live on a podcast to anybody else. But it is true. You know, I believe that you’d be quite happy. Well, your wife wouldn’t be happy, but you’d be quite happy being totally skinned if you are putting good stuff out into the world because ultimately it does come back to you. Now it may take a little bit of time, but the more value you put out Oh, it’s like I had a thing on LinkedIn. And it was one of those messages. And I hardly ever go on to LinkedIn. But I did. And it said, Hi, David, I hope you’ve been doing great. That’s very nice. So I’ve just had huge success with my client pre national interviews, pre interviews, 15, additional placements on various podcasts, radio shows and magazines. And I’m thinking of sharing how I did this in a free 30 minute masterclass. If I were to do this, would you be interested in attending it? And I just said, No, and so sent it back. And I thought I know what you’re doing. I know what you’re doing. And that’s, that’s obvious to me. But with your business, when you go over, and it’s www.com, in scotland.com, go over there and have a look. And there’s not anything that doesn’t feel like there is somebody wanting to help on now.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [35:54]
I like to think it’s refreshing. And I think, you know, I, I have a very successful business, I don’t need your money, I don’t need you to like, you know, come and pay me for this than the other. Just bringing it back, you know, we talk about taking that step back. And looking at why you do this. I don’t I do this not for money. I do this to help you shine your light brighter. So who would I be then if I held your light down by saying, oh, you know, follow me. If I did stuff out of integrity with that, and tried to like fleece you out of your money do this, that and the other let you see marketing as such a bad rap, doesn’t it? You see it out there so much. And I kind of come at this. From that place of, of, of love of compassion, of knowing that look, you can make a positive difference in the world. You can do marketing that is in integrity with who you truly are. And not out of that. Yeah, just try and walk that talk as best I can do well, I’ve
David Ralph [36:53]
done 10 years of podcasting. I’ve hardly put an advert on here. You know, I’m I advertise my own stuff every now and again. But generally I don’t, because I don’t like how it breaks the flow of the conversations and podcasts. And you have to sort of like listen to them talking about some, I don’t know, water bottle that they think’s amazing. Anything, it’s not happening. I’ll just get me a water bottle. But I think that ultimately people can see through that. And can you know, this is my question that’s sort of leading up to that, can we make chat GPT had that same heart? That same Colin, he certainly does jokes, because my wife lost three of her teeth recently, she thought she was going to have one down, she’s got three And damn, she won’t be happy with me sharing this. But she spends half her time running back into the house, say, Oh, I’ve left my teeth behind. And so I went on to chat GPT. And I said, Write a limerick based about a woman who’s really stressed about losing her teeth. And it did it. And it didn’t just do it. It was funny. You know, it was it had that human approach. So can we keep Colleen Scotland heart centred while using this? Or does it become a bit analytical?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [38:10]
This is where I think it all starts from that view of this being an accelerant of you, not a replacement of you. And if you focus on that, that rate some cool stuff, by the way, doesn’t it? I had it right and speech in the style of Winston Churchill and motivational speech. And I was literally laughing, bouncing in my chair laughing at what it produced. It was wonderful. But yeah, if you start with that, from that perspective of this is an accelerant of me not a replacement for. And then there are mechanisms that you can use to have the content that it creates. Sound like you mimic your tone, your phraseology, there are processes that you can follow really simple ways of just instructing the the API to use the same patterns of speech, the same languages and turns of phrase that you do. They’re called Tom modifiers. Right.
David Ralph [39:03]
Now, how do you know you’ve got the free version and you’ve got the pro version? Now I don’t use a pro version because I thought the free version is amazing. I thought why go on today? What what you get on the pro version.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [39:16]
So I always describe it like bottom line, I recommend that it’s like $20 A month or whatever, for whatever it is. The difference is, for the most part, almost night and day. So it’s a bit like asking a 15 year old a question about a 15 year old in school studying maths, asking them a maths question, Maths. Maths is probably a bad analogy chat. GPT isn’t great at maths. Let’s make it a history student. So you ask a 15 year old GCSE history student a question about history. And then you ask the same question to a PhD graduate or somebody that’s in their final year of their degree. The first one is GPT 3.5. The second is GPT four and so The quality of its understanding of what you’re asking it is richer and deeper, in my experience almost every time. So in that respect, if you can stretch afford the plus version of GPT, it is genuinely worth it. It’s not a sales pitch, it’s genuinely worth it. Because when you’re doing that important work of refining you, who you are your USP, all of the things that we’ve spoken about, you’ll get there faster, because it will give you better quality outputs.
David Ralph [40:32]
It’s got to be bloody good then because I think the threes amazing as I say, I sit here most of the time thinking to myself, yeah, bloody hell look at that.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [40:41]
It is amazing. And it is genuinely like a leap ahead. It is it is just what you’re getting amazement out of now, you’re literally you’re going to turn the dial up when you go into the, the form of GPT. Four, because it’s just a lot, a lot cleverer, a lot more intelligent it has, it makes a lot more patterns. When you’re doing creative stuff, or brainstorming and asking it to think outside of the box. It just it’s amazing. I’ve been doing some interesting things around one of my clients runs training for therapists. And so one of the things that we’ve been doing is having chat GBT assume the role of a therapist to act as a training and a therapist and trainings, practice partner, so they can practice giving therapy to people suffering with trauma, childhood things, whatever it might be. It’s ridiculously simple to set get this thing set up and working. And when we’ve done the tests in version 3.5, the free version versus the plus the paid version of chat GPT. Difference has just been phenomenal.
David Ralph [41:55]
Where is it heading now then, in your view, because it’s a quantum leap. I look at it. And I think I don’t actually remember, progress being made so fast in front of me, as in the last six or seven months, I think this is defining this is like when the caveman found fire, as far as I’m concerned, or somebody invented the will, this last seven months, if you’re involved in online work and stuff. This is like it blows your mind. And what always blows me my mind I say to my kids, you think this is amazing. Somebody’s fought about this six years ago. You know, they’re clever people six years ago, they were thinking all this and now we’re going this is cutting edge. So where do you think it’s heading now for people like us
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [42:44]
think it’s only going to accelerate at a pace of knots. So if we, if you take yourself back to 2007, when the iPhone first launched, and the iPhone launch was a real sea change, it marked the start of a sea change in a lot, a lot of spaces, right? The the phone industry is being one of them at that moment in 2007, when we all have this shiny iPhone, and we’re kind of getting excited by this thing that we can touch with our fingers rather than pressing buttons and flipping screens down if you’re old enough to remember those things. And I remember my dad having a car battery in his car, and it was a phone it was like touch by this curly wire. It was like nuts. And then go back again. I remember my Nana having a one on the wall with a dial right you twist the number and then you wait for it to come back. Twist. And that’s how you dial on the phone.
David Ralph [43:37]
You know you’re losing 90% of the audience now. They’ve got no idea what you’re
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [43:41]
doing. No. I’m showing my age now, David, showing my age. But ultimately, if you think about that, that that iPhone when that came out, nobody thought at that moment, I need to become an app developer. I need to create apps that help people to achieve x. Because we couldn’t see beyond that. We didn’t know that this giant industry of app developers working with a guy just got 5 million in funding for his app. That kind of thing didn’t exist before the launch of the iPhone. So in a similar way, chat, GBT now is going to give birth to a whole host of new ways to do business, new ways to exist new economies, new markets are just going to emerge out of the chat GPT and of course, old stuff is going to fade away old stuff is going to change and be some of that some of that will be lost. Some of that will go away. It’s in an inevitability when we’re faced with change like this, but there’s new things on the horizon that we literally haven’t even conceived yet the the plugins for chat GPT that’s another reason to go on the plus version. You get access to the plugins so at the moment, you just type text into chat GPT you get text out with the plug means you can create charts you can integrate interrogate data, you can browse the web and look at, you know, sales page, tell me how the sales page can be made more compelling, and how it can convert more visitors give me practical tips. In fact, go one stage further write a table of change this title to this and tell me why it’s going to be more compelling. So there’s a video thing that you could actually do, right? In the new version, this is just going to accelerate at such a pace that no even the experts can’t predict it.
David Ralph [45:34]
Now I remember what I was going to say is, I’m a professional podcaster. And I thought I must store it in my mind. I mean, it’s come back to me. I’m scheduling scheduling of sort of social media and stuff. Has chat GPT got the sort of capability because I know you can connect through sort of middlemen like Zapier to become more than it is at the moment has it got the ability to become like a content marketing manager to send things out at certain times and sort of run things in that regard?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [46:07]
At the moment, to track GBT operates in a silo. So a standalone container. It’s not interconnected. All AI like mid journey, the graphic AI, the graphic, generative AI, they’re all operating separately, like little pockets of you’ve got chat GBT, here, you’ve got Google with Bard here, you’ve got mid journey over here. They’re not interconnected. And they don’t look outwards, they operate inside their own little container. So the future here is one of the interconnectedness of the different fields of AI. So the ability to take the content that chat GPT creates, map out of schedule, and then implement the schedule, the implementation bit is where it would need to step out of its silo. At the moment, it’s only possible by using things like Zapier or one of these integration automation type tools. But in the future, when we hit that hole, the AGI, you know, the General, General Intelligence, kind of the, the polarity, you know, that’s the singularity, sorry, that they are talking about in the AI world, then these things can become autonomous and do these things for you. That’s where I think this is going to make a big shift at the moment. It’s fragmented. At the moment, you get text in text out, and then you have to go and do something with that. But pretty soon, that won’t be the case.
David Ralph [47:37]
I watched Mission Impossible yesterday with Tom Cruise. And the entity the entity is like an artificial intelligence running everything. And they were trying to double guess it. But they couldn’t double guess it because the entity knew that they were going to double guess it and you know, algae get round it and stuff. And I came out and I was saying to my son, this is where chat GBT is heading. This is this is this is it? It’s going to be so clever. But you know, I see the positives in everything. But I also see you got to be careful, you know, you this there’s something bad going to be down the line on this, isn’t it?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [48:17]
Well, again, I think that’s that’s about what we started talking about in the very beginning, right? It’s about our frame of mind, the way that we look at the
David Ralph [48:26]
Terminator, the Terminator? That’s what I’m saying.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [48:29]
The Terminator? Yeah, that that’s the Rise of the Machines. I think that the fear that comes up around this is things like if we tell if we give, if we take Jack chat GPT and we all have the AI technology and it becomes connected. So it becomes autonomous. And it’s able to reach out of its silo into the outside world. And then we say, go and solve climate change. And it sees the ants and I’ve read this somewhere, this isn’t from me. But if if it sees the answer as eradicate humans, and that will solve climate change, it’s working to its prime directive. And along the way to achieving that directive is the eradication of humans. That’s when obviously, there’s there’s a kind of danger in that isn’t there. And I think it’s things like that, that cause people to have those whole doomsday scenarios like the Terminator, then you’ve got the the to conceive the idea of of
David Ralph [49:25]
terrorists of people with negative bad intentions in the world, money, power, all of those, all of those things that drive the negative side of human nature, then that you know, that that weapon can become just that in the wrong hands as well. Well, this is where I think being mindful is helpful, you know, yeah, I’ve been being cautious. Yeah, to call with with how we approach it. And I think that that applies to everything. Because ultimately, everything we do in business is about building relationships. And if we become too isolated from building those relationships, and then we’ve missed the point of being in business, as far as I can see anyway. So I’m normally cut in at the end of the second episode, when somebody’s been on the show, we get you to go on the Sermon on the mic, and we send you back in time to have a one on one with your younger self. But I’m not going to do that this time. I think, for somebody new to chat GPT that’s never been on there. Give us your three most you’ve got to try this things. And also three fun things that they can use. So I’m putting your mind to test here three things that you go, wow, this is brilliant. You’ve really got to use this. And then three, this is a laugh, what would you say?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [50:38]
Okay, cool. So three things that will blow your mind outside of that had nothing to do with content creation. Yes. One of them. The first one. And I was doing this just the other day, it literally had me reeling in my chair is to ask cheap chat GBT. I’ve got prompts for this, I can gladly share them with your audience if it would help. Right? What you copy and paste into chatGPT as chat GPT to assume the role of a therapist and give you a guide you in a conversation to explore what’s gone on in your childhood that’s holding you back today. Wow, that’s not a write write me a blog post. Yeah, that is a very simple way of having chatsGPT guide you on some conversations that will literally cause you to stop and look at yourself and go, Wow, I didn’t realise I’m sabotaging my progress in that way. And that kind of thing can literally change the game. So that’s, that’s far bigger than just writing a blog post or 10. Right, or 20 or 1000
David Ralph [51:46]
minute thing come back to much masturbation about it, would you say? It would just
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [51:52]
love it a little bit. And then it would suggest ways that you can minimise your really cool. So that’s one different one. Another one is around actually getting things done. So a lot of people focus on the infinite creative possibilities of chat GBT making this making this making this making this making this, but that we fall down on the implementation and the doing. So I love to bring chat GPT into my coaching conversations and have my invitation to you would be to go into chat GBT and tell it what you’re looking to do. And when you’re looking to achieve it, and ask it to map out those steps, we touched on this earlier, ask it to map out those steps, tell it that you work three hours a day, Monday to Thursday, or whatever your schedule is, right? How can I achieve this in six weeks, eight weeks, 12 weeks, mapped this out for me create that schedule, and have it have introduced charge up to some of those areas of your life where where you need help, where you need, maybe it’s productivity, maybe it’s getting stuff done. But bring it into those practical elements as well. And it will just change the game. And then the third one, I’ve got to probably go through 80 of these days. And then the third one
David Ralph [53:09]
keeps coming. I’m loving these.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [53:12]
The third one is I think, yeah, let me share, let me share this one, it’s one of the interesting things that you can do is look at the thing that stops you doing what you want to do is we talked about track childhood things that go on in the first example. But the thing that stops you doing, what you want to do is you will have this voice in your head that says, You’re never going to succeed, you’re not going to do Who do you think you are? I have it in my head all day. And that will stop you from actually executing on all of this stuff. Because you get excited about what chat GBT can do, but then you will fall flat. So having chat, GBT looked at the Waze, let me read this prompt. It is quite cool, right? So give me a sec. Let’s grab it. So looking at looking at guidance, I’m seeking guidance to overcome my procrastination tendencies and reduce the feeling of overwhelm and impostor syndrome in my business, I would appreciate it if you could assist me as an as an experienced mentor and coach, let’s look at my habits, my routines and patterns to identify things that holding me back and assist me with practical strategies to overcome them. So that’s like, like a super simple way that you can really tackle the big things that are going on for you. So look, I’ve not just given you three fluffy examples of email sequences and this and that and the other because the real power of chat GPT is it can change your life. And if you allow it to, if you use it in the right way, it can make such a massive difference.
David Ralph [54:57]
What I loved about that is that you were very polite and You said I would appreciate it in your in your poem, because I still write please at the beginning of it. And my son said, Why are you saying pleased to chat GBT? And I said, and I always say, please to this, the smart devices, I won’t say it now, because I burst into life. I just can’t get past that sort of social element of thinking that these are kind of people and they’re not just servants.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [55:24]
What you said there, you’ve hit onto something really, really powerful. Because remember, chat GPT isn’t a person. It’s not a it’s not an intelligence. It’s an artificial intelligence. And it, it’s just very good at pattern recognition. So if we say, help me overcome procrastination, it will spit out a load of stuff around procrastination, if we say, I’m looking for guidance. So the word guidance, it picks up on that to overcome my procrastination. And I would appreciate it if you could assist me as an experienced mentor, or coach, the word appreciate the word assist their patterns that it picks up in the language that we’re instructing it. And so that changes everything in terms of how it produces an output for us. So it’s not just we see as a human politeness, we’re being kind we’re being polite with, please, thank you. It actually affects the outputs that you give into chat GBT. And I’ve tested more than I can remember so far, right? I’ve tested multiple prompts where you do or you don’t ask, please, and thank you. Oh, you’re quite rude. Are you quite Curt? It affects the output. So strangely, a bizarrely and perhaps contributing to the anthropomorphize morph, I can’t say that word, you know, where we think it’s human. What’s contributing to that is the sense that when we are polite, we get better results back. Does that makes sense?
David Ralph [56:49]
It makes sense in life. And everywhere done in that interest is being the less people be nice, provide value more than you expect back? And ultimately, you will win the game. That’s true, Colin?
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [57:02]
Nice. So three, three quick, fun things, David.
David Ralph [57:04]
Oh, yeah. But God knows I was so engrossed in those other ones.
CHATGPT Expert Colin Scotland [57:08]
They’re quite deep, right. If you play with them, I promise you will literally, you’ll be rooting around the floor for the top of your head like I am every day. Three fun things. Go and speak to somebody that you love and admire that is no longer with us and a famous person, right? So I’m a big I love playing the guitar and love the Beatles. So I go and have a conversation with John Lennon. So you can use chat GBT to assume assume the role of and then have a conversation as if it is that famous person from history. That’s quite a fun thing to do. The other thing I like to do is I like to have chat GBT mimic people. So I mentioned the Winston Churchill speech before. And I talked about this like rallying cry for entrepreneurs in the voice in the tone of Winston Churchill. So as well as going and speaking to people from history, and just asking them random questions, then you can also you can also utilise their voice their tone in the things that you do. And it’s quite fun. So you, you take a piece of marketing copy. And then you ask ask chat GBT to make it sound like Mark Twain or have them have it reinterpreted in the voice of Margaret Thatcher. I don’t know who whoever like comes to mind. But that can be quite an interesting way or make it a stand up routine, right? Make it something that’s like a bit fun and a little bit quirky and a little bit different. And it’s just just not knocks my socks off. And then the final one is you mentioned this about your wife’s your wife’s unfortunate thing with the teeth, right? So I will often do is have chat GBT to write a limerick or create a poem about a specific issue. So my son’s in Magaluf with his friends at the moment. So write me a little write me a little ditty about a love strip to medical off. And the dangers of or to something about fun like that. So limericks, poems and jokes and things like that. It’s just good fun.
David Ralph [59:04]
It is. It is all good fun. It’s all fascinating. And it certainly has been brilliant really delving into this and just so well delving into but still thinking that you’re just scratching the surface. So Colin, for people out there, who are interested in developing their business and using artificial intelligence and learning from you, what’s the best way that they can connect with you?
