Understanding Consumer Behaviour Theory
Consumer behaviour theory is one of those things that puzzle so many people working online today.
What makes a customer buy from you, or order your services with the minimum of effort ?
Well in todays podcast we break down consumer behaviour theory into it’s simplest form.
Best of all, you already are an expert on this, as we all do exactly the same things.
We are all consumers and spend our days searching, buying, checking reviews and making a decision before clicking the buy button.
But i guess like all things, when it’s stuff that we naturally do then consumer behaviour theory is a hidden secret to us.
It’s too close for us to see.
No more, my friends.
This is a very deep subject, too deep for this first dive into the subject, so let’s keep to the key elements.
Just understand these will maximise your chance of making a great living online.
1: Consumer Behaviour Theory = Know Your Audience
There is no getting away with the fact, but if you are providing something that nobody wants then you will struggle.
We all do this at times of our online journey, as we try our hardest to break the online code and make some cash.
We come up with some new exciting idea that totally rocks our mind to the core.
We spend months creating it, launching it, and then find that the first key element to understanding consumer behaviour theory is know your audience.
If you do not know or understand what your customers are looking for, and the problems that they are needing solutions for then you will fail.
You need to ask, ask, ask and then ask again.
How can i help you?
What are your daily problems?
Where is your biggest struggle in life everyday?
If you are concerned about doing this, then you can stalk easily, by diving into the world of Amazon Reviews, forums, FB groups, anywhere that people hangout and leave their opinions and comments.
Believe me it won’t take long for you to really start seeing the patterns that people leave when buying or talking about their favourite products.
Best of all the worst products might just be your golden ticket, as your ideal customer won’t stop at telling you what they don’t like about it.
So can you solve those issues and make something you know they are already buying better?
That is stage one of consumer behaviour theory.
Do the work and know your audience and what they are struggling with and you will be ahead of most people online today.
2: Without The Trust People Won’t Buy
So many people think that they can start an online business and BANG they are millionaires overnight.
This of course can happen for sure, but for the rest of us mere mortals it takes time.
It takes time to build your traffic, brand, customer understanding and of course online trust.
Why do you think people love to put testimonials on their websites for you to read?
Or link to Google reviews at every opportunity?
This simply is to put peoples mind at rest and make them happy that their purchase is going to be right for them.
Throughout Join Up Dots we put trust at the front of everything we do, as without you won’t have any customers.
Consumer behaviour theory isn’t hard it’s just common sense.
Don’t try to trick people into buying as this is the quickest way to kill your business, instead treat them like you would want to be treated yourself.
Make this clear and precise, and offer the best value that you can so they tell their friends or become repeat buyers.
So that is the second stage of consumer behaviour theory, we have already learnt you have to know your audience, now make them trust you.
3: Consumer Behaviour Theory = Make The Process Simple
If you went into a shop to buy a new pair of trousers and couldn’t find them, then you wont buy.
Shops go out of their way to add clear signage throughout their premises to direct the customer to what they want to buy.
Within your own online business you have to operate in exactly the same way.
Consumer behaviour theory doesn’t need to be applied at all if your customer can’t find what they want quickly and easily.
Most businesses that come to Join Up Dots looking for help struggle with this fact.
They have forgotten the clean customer journey and have provided so much content the buying customer doesn’t know where to go.
Look at your own online business, or better still get someone to look at it for you.
Is there a clear path up and down and sideways, so wherever you are you are only one step away from a buying page?
Is all your content relevant to your services or products ?
If it is just something that you fancy writing about, or had great traffic numbers then think twice before creating it?
A banana is a banana, its yellow, we eat it, and its good for us.
Dont try to talk around the subject, stick to the point and you will do fine.
4: Link It All Together = Get The Sales Funnel Working
Now we use the word “Sales Funnel” as this is what people talk about day in and day out online.
You have to have the sales funnel working to make everything automated and simple for your business and success.
But what is a sales funnel really?
To be honest its nothing more than providing more and more information to a potential customer to answer thoughts they might be having?
Customers need to be nurtured along the line to a sale, and by gaining access to their email account and then proving them top quality answers to their questions you move them towards the sale.
Now at thie point of the consumer behaviour theory you should be thinking “So is this really it?”
I firstly need to know my customer, and then I need to build the trust they have.
Then i need to make things as clear and easy to navigate as possible, and then try to answer their questions and issues before they are buying.
Yep, i told you it isn’t hard as we experience this flow, time and time again.
You walk into a shop, you look at the signs, you find your trousers and try them on, and generally a sales assistant will ask “Is there anything I can help you with?”
Isn’t that easy to think through?
You have broken down the consumer behaviour theory, into four easy steps that we all 100% understand.
So before you start building an online business, or closing yours down as a failure go back and work through these areas.
Just one section that isn’t working can bring the whole system down on you.
And that my friends is Consumer Behaviour Theory the easy way.
