Creating the life you love should be what everyone of us spends our time doing everyday.
Waking up every morning and thinking “Yay, how exciting what can I do to make my life even better?”
Perhaps it is to allow more free-time to flow into our lives.
Giving us the chance to create even more wonder in our day to day existence.
Perhaps it is simply to stop having to hear the alarm clock scream in the darkness every-morning.
Allowing our natural life biorhythms to wake us up when we have had enough sleep.
Whatever your dream existence might be there is no doubt at all that creating the life you love is your god given right to create.
In this article and every podcast episode and blog post throughout Join Up Dots we share similar stories.
Stories of inspirational folk just like you who woke from a deep dream one day and thought
“No more working for someone else. Now it’s all about me and what I want to do everyday!”
We share the hustle and grind that it takes to start creating the life you love.
However we also share the amazement and gratitude when it all comes together for you, and it will for sure.
As long as you are intentional to what you want your life to be like.
Creating The Life You Love (Part One)
For many many years I had a nagging inside me that I wasn’t doing what I should with my life.
From the age of sixteen when I first bounded up the steps to my first job in my heart of heart I knew.
I knew that what I would spend the next twenty years doing was as far away from the message of “creating the life you love” as was possible to get.
I have always been a dreamer, a doer, inspired by huge success, loving stories of celebrities that got to the top.
Everything that made a life different from what I was seeing around me I was inspired and excited by.
So why did I end up working in Banking and Insurance for so many years?
Why did I not see the job of creating the life you love as my number one priority?
Well like so many other people I didn’t really know what I wanted to be doing everyday.
I had drifted into a job as it was paying the money, and never once asked myself “Is this creating the life you love David?”
I can’t say that this was a bad thing that I should look back and beat myself up about.
It was just part of the journey getting me to where I said “Enough is enough it’s now time to go for it”
Isn’t that how your life is at this very moment of reading this article?
You just don’t know what you want to be doing with your life, so you just do other stuff?
When I Could Take No More Drudgery
The problem with most jobs is that they aren’t terrible all the time.
We all have times when we think “I can’t stand this and I’m leaving!”
However things settle down again and things become bearable so we continue where we are.
I would say that everyone of the guests that have appeared on the Join Up Dots Podcast got to a point where they could take no more.
I was certainly a case and after many years of doing what I wanted in my role a new boss turned up.
To say that I didn’t see eye to eye with this person was an understatement.
I didn’t see eye to eye, nose to nose, or any other part of the body with this new nemesis that had entered my life.
I no longer cared about the money I was earning everyday.
It wasn’t important the hours that I worked were less than anyone else I knew.
The idea of creating the life you love became all I cared about and I started the Join Up Dots podcast.
Little did I know that it would end up quite simply being more than I could have ever had hoped possible.
Creating the life you love is always going to take you in directions that you never thought possible.
That is why you have to start doing it straight away.
Creating The Life You Love (Part Two)
Once you have the burning desire to go in the new direction then you have to do many things to make it happen.
Check out the ten steps that we took to achieve this goal here.
Many of them seem counter intuitive for sure, but they work as we have lived them all.
This article I guess is the second part where we add more ideas to the mix to help you on your way.
But first back to my story.
Once I had decided that the work I was doing could be no more it was a simple decision to leave.
I simply handed in my letter of resignation and walked into my future.
However when every decision is now yours to make things can very quickly be a nightmare.
You spin plates left right and centre.
You jump back and forth desperate to make things work.
The idea of creating the life you love becomes creating a life that is killing you.
That was certainly the key to my existence and looking back this was due to one thing only.
Lack of clarity
If you don’t have a fixed idea where you are heading then very quickly you will get lost.
Or in my case, end up going around and around in circles until you fall to your knees.
Testing Things Out To Decide On A Direction
Look, we would love you to listen to every episode of the Join Up Dots podcast.
To hear how others have changed direction and found the things that light them up inside.
However there comes a point that you have to start taking action.
You have to get off your backside and test things out to see if it’s a fit for your talents.
If you start the process of creating a life you love by doing stuff that you are poor at then failure beckons.
If you start the process by really knowing yourself and what you are brilliant at then you are ahead of the game for sure.

This will help you get a good steer on where you should be heading – it worked for us and thousands of others.
Work Harder Than Is Possible At The Beginning
If we asked you to find the biggest boulder you can and move it you will struggle.
Once you get it rolling along then you can move that boulder with one hand at the most.
Momentum takes time to get going, but it’s a scientific law.
You will find momentum difficult to stop once it gets going, and the boulder will almost move on its own.
The same can be said for creating the life you love too.
It is a hard push to take that vision of what you want to achieve and make it into something amazing.
The kind of amazing that means you don’t have to work on it everyday.
You don’t have to do anything other than maintain it to keep that momentum going.
Join Up Dots is proof of that indisputable law of momentum.
At the beginning the only people that heard of the show were people I actually told.
Even then they didn’t listen. In fact nobody listened at all.
Roll on five years and millions of people across the world have listened to Join Up Dots and been inspired to change.
Put the effort in at the beginning so you can reap the rewards later on.
Take Time To Let Things Bed Down
You tell me one gardener across the world that plants a seed and then digs it up again.
Removing it from the soil to see if it is growing.
Of course you wouldn’t find any like that, so why do we think that it’s different when building a business or dream-life?
Steve Jobs made the classic “Connect the dots” speech that became the frame of everything we do in Join Up Dots.
He said “You have to trust in something…” and we think that you have to trust in time.
You have to trust that the work you are doing will get somewhere remarkable.
Plant the seeds the best that you can, and allow them to start to take root.
Then you can decide to either plant more seeds, or water the ones bearing fruit.
Creating The Life You Love (Part Three)
It took me nearly forty years to grasp the fact that you don’t create the life you love.
You live the life you love every single day.
It’s all the trips and falls, wins and failures that actually are putting you where you need to be.
On the path to having the most kick-ass existence that you could possibly have in life.
No one will do this for you, no matter how much you think they will.
More often that not people will hold you back from having the chance to start creating the life you love.
But it’s your right to ignore them and make it happen.
Decide on what you want to do, work hard, allow time and be who you want to be.
I am now the host and founder of Join Up Dots and living the life that I couldn’t have imagined a few years back.
You can do the same too…go for it.
