I particularly want to reference the desire to have time with her family as a leading driver to her workload.

Yes, good morning to you. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? Today? Good morning. Good morning to you. And you and you and you good? Yes. Good morning to you. Good morning. And welcome to the Join Up Dots podcast, the entrepreneurial damning do podcast where we inspire you guys to go out and do your own thing and take control of your time and enjoy your life and love your life. And just just love being inspired. And as I always say, little bit sexy. And I think it is I think it’s time I think it’s time to actually, I spent the last few years saying yes, I am the sexiest UK podcast I’m sexy. This I’m sexy back. Because generally I feel good. I feel good, bad. You knew that I would did. I feel good. And it’s about making you guys feel sexy as well. I want you to feel passionate, I want you to feel infused. I want you to start making babies with strangers on buses and trains on the way to work. That’s how sexy we want to be. Because if you’re feeling good and you’re feeling infused and you’re feeling what you are doing is right and what you want to do in life is coming towards you, then you’re going to feel you’re going to feel sexy, aren’t you? So that’s that’s gonna be the mantra of the show. We’re gonna have sex it up people. Yes, we are. We’re going to make you go out and grab control of your life and feel really good about yourself. Well, I have to a few emails now. There was a show the other day, but I did can’t remember when it was they all blew in. So one because I’m a podcaster. I don’t reflect on it. I just open my mouth. And I start speaking. But I was talking about the bear in the Big Blue House. Yeah, remember him? Hello. Hello, Moon. And Tata. And what was the tree low and pop? I think they were very close. I know, there were artists in the bar. And I said is the bear in the Big Blue House still going and I’ve received quite a few emails to tell me he’s no more Yes, he might be appearing on the TV still. But they stopped making it back in 2006. Really, they stopped making it 13 years ago, and they are still producing it and making money on it now back. That is leverage. That is what we want in our business. That’s what every single person needs to focus on having the bear in the Big Blue House as our model, the business sucks, says you can stop 13 years ago, and you’re still making money every single day by being repeated. Now, if we think about that, and we drill it into our business, how do we do that? Well, with me, it’s very easy. I do a podcast. And so as long as I’m still breathing, and I’m producing the podcast, people can go back and listen to the early episodes. And I’ve been doing the same my self this week, actually, because I’m going back. And I’m tidying up a lot of the early shows not the audio, but the actual pages in the show notes to get more SEO hooks, people find my show naturally organically. And they come to Join Up Dots in many different ways. And so I’ve been sort of listening back to the early stuff. And of course, that is brilliant. Because the more I do the more abilities for people to find me. And then it’s just I do it once and you know, ultimately make money for the rest of my life. That’s what I want. I want to make money for the rest of my life. So yeah, think about it in your own business. Think about the bear in the Big Blue House. And when you’re thinking to yourself, I don’t

I seem to be trapped into my business all the time. Think to yourself, how would the bear to it? There we go. Why, okay. It’s good. Actually, I think that is, you know, I just opened my mouth and started talking. But I think there’s a lot of logic into that leverage all these podcasts, all these video content, all these TV programmes, they make it once and I keep on flogging it for years and years and years. That’s what we need to think about our business. How do we leverage effort for one go? So it pays us back time and time again. Now back seamlessly, yes, seamlessly leads into a podcast, not a podcast, what I’m talking about. That was almost perfect man. I felt I was professional. I was seamlessly moving into an email. And then I screwed it up by saying the word podcast. But this is from a lady that I received this week. And I sent a voicemail message back to her. And she’s in Texas America. And I hope she wants her name just in case she doesn’t want a name to be be shared. But she might be going, I want to be famous. I want to be I want to be like Katy Perry and people talk about me. Now. If you want to be famous. Just tell me at the bottom of the emails. Yes, please share my name with the world. If not, I will keep it Bay. But there’s good content in this, as you will hear in the reading. Yes. Now this is from a lovely lady in Texas America. And as I hope she doesn’t mind me sharing this. But hey, it’s a little bit late now. But there was so much passion and enthusiasm to make her life what she dreams it could be and will be I want you to share this. And I particularly want to reference but desire to have time with her family as a leading driver to our workload. Now, I’m seeing that more often than not with people but I’m talking about, of course, you’ve got to pay your bills. Of course you do. It’s so important. But the biggest driver, having the time to be with their families having a time to put their kids to bed or take their kids to school or baby or whatever. And there’s a there’s a lady in one of our gratitude groups. Now we are creating these gratitude groups that keep your positivity and your enthusiasm at fever pitch by grouping you with our inspired and motivated people. And she is in and I’m trying to think Louisiana I believe and her name is Sandy monk Whitlock. Now she might be a real monk, I don’t know, she doesn’t look like a monk to be honest. But she might be. And in one of the groups the other day, she posted this post and she said I am so grateful that I could take my grandson to the movies in the morning, I could take my granddaughter out for a meal in the evening. And I still had the time in the day to do what I want to do because she’s building her own real estate business. So if you want to know more about how to buy lovely luxury
houses in Louisiana, and gos I hope it is Louis, but I’m sure it is I’m sure it is Sandy monk. Whitlock is the person and you can drop me a line at Join Up Dots and I will connect you and if houses are sold based on it, Sandy, commission, commission, I think we can negotiate something quite nicely. Anyway, back to the email. Hi, David. Here we go. Hi. I’ve been meaning to email you for the longest time. And finally, I came across your podcast about two to three years ago. I commute from my home to my business at the time in San Antonio, Texas about an hour drive. So you would always be on at first she says not going to lie. The accent annoyed me. The accent annoyed me back then I thought my accent was the thing. The thing that nerd people into my web. Kids love Peppa Pig she says so they love you too. Hello. Hello after the kids. I love the kids. Right? However after a few podcast, I just couldn’t listen to anything else. Hello, pepper. what’s the what’s the little one? George? Yeah, he was a bit annoying. He didn’t do anything did he do George and daddy pig? Oh, I’m even now my 11 and five year old would look forward to listening to your message. Hello 11 and five year olds, I hope you put your seat belts on in the back. And let me know your name. So I can give you a name check 11 and five year olds because you are you are the entrepreneurs. You’re the people for the future. Yeah. Don’t worry about your mom. It’s all about you too. That’s what I’m trying to get to. I’d glance at the rearview mirror and see my son laugh at one of your off jokes. pokes. And my daughter singing the intro By the way, he now takes and promotes cold showers. Low brilliant. That’s what it’s all about cold showers. I’m doing them at the moment. And I’ve discovered in the summer, my don’t feel cold at all. And in the winter. It’s like Arctic survival training. It’s difficult to do it in the winter. And I’m not looking forward when the water in the pipes changes temperature again. But yeah, if you’re not doing cold showers, get in there, freeze your little bits off. And yeah, they do shrink, they do shrink, but don’t matter you know, you can you can towel vigorously to get them back to full size. And and the world will be impressed with you once more, I promise you. Now, she says the point is you changed my life, you made a difference in whatever I was going through at that time. I’m from Hispanic descent. And our culture is very negative, always second guessing myself and being the yes lady that just couldn’t say no. Now I’ve
always had an entrepreneurial spirit, I had my first store at 26 men a real estate agent event called an art gallery. And lastly, a small art shop in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Now however, I’ve always struggled with them not being successful enough, or me being there all the time. And she put that in capitals. Oh, now she’s annoyed by that fact that, you know, I created this business to have a lifestyle of my own. But I’m there all the time. And my 11 and five year old kids are having to look after themselves. They’re having to make dinner by by reaching into the cereal boxes. And and she’s missing out on important events with her family. So on May the 31st, she closed her brick and mortar and started to push the online shop, okay, and she says I’d love to be part of the movement, Join Up Dots, but changed, uplifted and inspired me. I want to say that you’re an inspiration and a blessing. Now what I wanted to share that one I want you to share about was the fact that she knows bat, a business isn’t a business, if it’s not giving you the lifestyle. And through my coaching that I do more often than not people start with ideas and they come to me and they say, Oh, I’m going to be doing this and I’m going to be doing that like oh, it’s rubbish. It’s rubbish you think about it? That is this dealing with one client, if you’ve got 10 clients, how are you ever going to see life, you’re not gonna see sunshine, you’re gonna become like a, like a cave dwelling creature that when you put your hands up, you can see through your bones, you become so powerful, you’ve got to be able to do it. At the time. That’s right for you like Sandy, the monk might be a monk who knows she’s doing that. So I love that lady from San Antonio, Texas. And I love the fact that you’re now focusing in on the time. And believe me, with your online shop shop, what you’ve got to do is number one, you’ve got to make sure that people want what you’re selling. Number two, you’ve got to see that it’s a constant. And it’s not a trend based business where we see you know, certain points of the year you make a lot of money and then others you don’t. And third, they can find you Okay, and as long as you’ve got those three, you should be okay. Of course, if you need any help, you can come across or send me another message. And I’ll try to help you in any way I can. But thank you so much for sending that email through. And thank you so much for being focused on your kids, because I don’t want them to be growing up like that Mowgli running around being raised by squirrels in the back garden because you’re not there. It’s important to be there. Ok. Now, let’s move on to the nuts and bolts of the episode. Yes, we have three quick questions posed by the listeners either through email or the Facebook page. So this is the first question. This is the first question. Okay. And it’s good question. I’ve actually read this. I don’t normally read these beforehand. But I’d read this one and I thought, oh, oh, I’m actually going to call the podcast this. d David and everyone who works at Join Up Dots. I’m a recent convert to your show. And I’m ploughing through several episodes a day on my daily commute. I’d love what know what you was listening to, you know, because you know what I thought they were. I’m on now beating them. Am I now pushing them down into the bin or podcasting? Hell, just like that big in Toy storey when when woody walks into the bin and the little creatures kind of drag him down. Is that podcast going down into that? To that hell? Whoa. I saw toy storey for the other day. What’s the point? What’s the point? I won’t say anything more than that. Okay. One of the things that comes out of your show is you can’t do this on your own. And I would love to find a mentor that could help me but I don’t have the money to spare. The truth is I don’t think I will ever had the money to attract the ones that could really make a difference. Any ideas Melanie Bristow from Humberside UK and Humberside up north. That’s where they will talk money. Okay, so Melanie Bristow, Humberside UK. Now,
you can do it so many different ways. And it was funny, actually, I was going over an old show that I had, I had a guy called Mark lack on the show. And I went over to his website, and I just thought, I wonder what he’s doing now. And I’m sort of looking. And he has said that he has spent a million dollars on self development books and courses, because the more you learn, the more you can sort of move on to where you want to be. Because we haven’t all gone million dollars. Oh, No, we haven’t. And personally, I don’t think I would be comfortable spending a million dollars, even though it could push me to the point where I’m earning $3 million back, you’ve got to understand yourself. And I’m, I’m a little bit tired. I like to have money in the bank. I like to like to swim around in my cash like Scrooge McDuck every morning. And so that would be a big push personally for me. Now, at the beginning, when you haven’t got any money. How do you do it? Well, this is how you do it. Melanie Bristow, this is how you get a mentor of three. Firstly, look the top guys, okay, don’t don’t look for somebody sort of, you know, just one step ahead or two steps ahead. Look for somebody so far ahead, but you can’t possibly reach now, if I go back to Join Up Dots beginning time. There was a guy, he’s still there. He’s still doing it. And I don’t listen to the show at all. But it’s called entrepreneur on. Yes, you’ve got to be an entrepreneur. And as long as you’re on fire, then it’s fine. Okay, they will throw a bucket of water over you or put sand around your feet every now and again. You on fire. So it’s a it’s a delight. And john created a show just when I started. And he was about what I started in April 2014. So he was about September 2013. And he show was seven days a week. So I went seven days a week he show was about 25 minutes. So I went hour and a half hour, an hour and a half every single day literally, to provide the content. But what I did was, I was inspired by what he was doing. So I would listen to every podcast episode, but he was interviewed on I didn’t listen to his show. But I listened to others. And so he was my unofficial mentor in those early days. And you can find somebody that you are really inspired by and believe me most of or not, you will find podcasts where they’re being interviewed, if they’re good, they’re going to be interviewed you and start going over to iTunes or Stitcher and typing their name. And Ben, find all the shows and start listening to them because they will be mentoring you three, Yes, I will. And through that you will find maybe a subject or they might reference a book. And you can go to the library and get that book for nothing. Now, in the United Kingdom, I assume it works the same way. When I was a kid in the 70s, we had no Google was no internet, we had to go to the library all the time, and do our homework. Yeah, kids don’t know how, you know, kids just cut and paste and throw it up there. And it’s all done. And I still move, I used to have to cycle down to the library and get one of these like little machine things out that was called micro fish. Now you only if you’re old were you remember this, and I realised I’m gonna be 50 next year. And then with shock, I’m going to be 70 in 20 and a half years time, oh, my God, I that’s the kids side. And I used to have to do these micro pitch thing where it was like a, I don’t know, like a negative. I’m like an X ray. And used to sort of Miss move this light mouse being around to try to find it was hard work people, it was hard work. But you can go down to your local library. And you can say, Have you got the book by so and so. And if I haven’t, somebody in that library kind of network will have it. And you can order it, and it comes to you. And then you can read it. So you’ve got podcast, and then you’ve got books. And also YouTube. These people again, are out there, say something like Gary Vee in a child now gotta be buying the chuck is if you want to dig around. So go over to YouTube, type in his name, and start finding his video content. Once again, you can sit there every night being mentored by the person and finding out their thoughts, their inspiration, their struggles, their success, you’ve got high level mentor, for free. And I would really say that, you know,
I can understand why you’re saying but you haven’t got the money. I’m not going to argue that talks on that at all, Melanie, but I would say that there’s ways around it to get the person you want. So by inverse subjects you want to do find the expert within that subject. Look on iTunes, look on YouTube, find out what books a reference, go over to their website is loads of information, then they go down to the library and start doing your homework and you will be an expert. And also Melanie, you’re gonna be sexy, you will be sexy, and people will notice the change in you and people will say, what’s happened to Melanie, she looks so sexy and people will say, Well, she’s been Join Up Dots. What is Join Up Dots. Go over it and you’re be sexy to Yes. But generation boom is coming people now. Hopefully that was of help to Melanie. So we will move on to the next question. Now for the second question. Where is it? OK, David, you on the sexiest man I’ve ever heard on the wireless. Now I love that call. She called me a sexy man, which is great. But the fact that you’re calling it the wireless. My mom and dad don’t even call it the wireless. So whether you’re a cutting age, Granny, or you’re just caught in time, but I love that I love the thought of being on the wireless for the kids out there is basically the radio and the kids out there. The radio is podcast and the kids that I don’t know where it’s going but it’s radio clinging on I hope it does because experiment podcasts they really is now, David, you want to sexiest man I’ve ever heard on the whitelist had to say again. I started my new business a couple of years ago in the arena of sports therapy. I love it. That is an arena. It’s like Gladiator. Am I entertaining you? I find that I’m spending so much money on marketing and find the clients come to me in drips and drabs. If anybody doesn’t know what dribs and drabs is drips, and drabs is sort of every now and again, it’s not consistent. Any idea how I can get more consistent results? Yes, I do. First of all, most businesses screw up on focusing in on new customers and not focusing in on the customers they’ve got, okay? Now, if you go to an insurance company, and you take out your insurance, they love you, and they go, Oh, it’s going to be 30 pounds this year. And you got that’s brilliant. That’s great. I will sign up for you and I will be happy. And you will protect me and my my loved ones with your 30 pounds. insurance policy. Brilliant. And then next year, 12 months now comes along and I say okay, your new renew. And don’t worry, you don’t have to do a thing, we will do it for you. billion pound is a billion pound. And they screw you over. Now, why are they screwing me over because they love me last year and I gave it really cheap, because they’re just focused in on getting more and more clients into a business. Now it doesn’t work. Because I go, I’m not paying a billion pound, I’m cancelling. And then I’m going off to another insurance company and I never stay with the same insurance company. I always move around because I’m not paying it. I’m not paying it people not on my salary. I can’t afford that kind of thing. And, and so they lose out. Now what they should do is say to people, okay, it was 30 pounds the first year, the second year, we’re going to keep it the same. Or it might even be 10 pence cheaper or something.
Unknown Speaker [21:28]
I would stay I would stay.
David Ralph [21:31]
So they’ve got me for two years. So they doubled their profits, then they were the same again. I’ve got me for three years, they’ve got me for life. Okay. And as long as I keep it to the same kind of thing. They’ve got me so they’ve tripled, tripled their income is that the greatest business advice you’ve ever heard? Of course it is. So with yours? Oh, there’s no name on here. I don’t even know it’s true. Referrals any of your people that come through your clients, give them 5% off, give them a free massage, give them something, whatever. And you will be our to you know, build up your business and you’re doing it on word of mouth. Marketing is brilliant. Because marketing is getting people that don’t know you. Okay? But people that already do know you that Ben say nice things about you testimonials. That’s gold, and all of us will go, you know, did you have a good restaurant? Yeah, that restaurant Dan about I had a lovely meal the other day? Oh, really? Okay, I’m going to try it out. We are swung by referrals and testimonials. Okay. Now, the second thing we need to do on their secret woman from the wireless is Canvas opinion, say to your clients, would you mind just answering three quick questions? How did you find me? What do you like about me? What can I do better? Okay. Oh, yes, to be free. You know, it doesn’t have to be world dominating information that you get from them. And there’s nothing worse for now. I get people on the phone. I’ve got a business. And I was down there the other day, and he’s the only place on earth but I actually answer the phone because I don’t have a phone in my life. You cannot get me people. You cannot get me. That was American that was and I answered the phone and they go. Yes. Hello, is that Mr. Ralph? This is rude. And you can have a halo for I’m happy. You got a couple of moments for a couple of quick questions. And then as soon as you’re into it, you realise it’s like 15 minutes, 20 minutes? No, people won’t do that. But three really quick questions. How did you find me? What do you like about me? How can I improve and you can start building up your business. Now while I do three is because you can then build a three stage funnel into your business. By having the people that are finding you come across and have a look. And then find out why other people like you, and then sign up. So everything on my business is about three steps. anything more than that is too complicated. And most of the steps ends up with you actually meeting me or talking to me, I think it’s absolutely important to me to be part of that funnel. In the old days, it was all about just having things online where you can click on it and just sort of make money. It’s a lot more difficult nowadays, I really do think it’s a lot more difficult. And so I think if you can structure it that one day, a week, one day, a month, whatever your you have open house where people can speak to you directly find out more about you. That’s the way to do it. Get those testimonials, get those referrals and get that Canvas from the people that are already using you. That’s the way to grow your business. Okay, wireless lady. Okay. And now, the last question is the last question. Okay. David, David, there are so many different podcasts out there today. I’m inspired to start my own from Chris Mark from Chris Martin. From Coldplay not doing that and had an album out for a while. Is this V. Martin. Okay, because if it is Chris, I will fix you. Yes, I will. Because I am the scientist. I can’t think of any other Coldplay songs. I’m sure there’s loads of them actually quite like Coldplay. I think they’re good. Right. So David, there are so many different podcasts out there today. I’m inspired to start my own. Do you have any tips on choosing a subject? That will work?
Unknown Speaker [25:21]
David Ralph [25:22]
Chris Martin, you have come to the right place. Okay. Now the very first thing that you’ve got to think about is whether you’re going to do it as a hobby? Or are you going to do it as a business. Now, anybody that comes along to me and says, David, I know you teach podcasting, I’d like to be a podcaster, I would always say to them now, have you got a business because if you haven’t got a business, don’t start a podcast burst, okay, you’ve got nothing to hang on it. When I started Join Up Dots, it was a huge mistake. Because I had to grow my audience before I could make any money. And when the audience needed to trust me, and when they needed to see the business sort of grown around, and then I started making money from it, and then the money became very nice. But at the beginning, just having a podcast, as the leading part of your business is a huge mistake, Chris Martin, just write another album, do another album and another tour and you’ll be fine. Don’t do the podcast. Now, if you have got a business, what you need to do is think about where community is? Where do people have a connexion? What their kind of Social Triggers, but make people want to listen and want to share? You know, if we look at Facebook, for example, one of the reasons why that went gangbusters, and it’s still doing very well is people are quite nosy, and they like to look at other people’s lives. And they also like to show their own lives off. Okay. And it’s a kind of ego based community bear where everybody is either saying, Oh, it’s brilliant, look at this, what a wonderful time I’m having or Oh, isn’t the world rubbish, and then it’s tapping into two marketplaces, the positive people, or there’s negative people. Now, with your podcast, have you got the ability to tap, tap into a community that’s out there. And I think that the the communities out there that work really well, our lifestyle based ones, where you can actually show people that you’re living the life, okay, don’t just talk about it, but show them that you’re living the lie, how to gain money, how to gain more time, how to gain freedom, how to change the planet, things that make a difference, people are inspired about, okay, you could also do a podcast based on something that is really, really popular. So if you did, I’m sure they’re out there. But you could have done a podcast on Game of Thrones or something, or, or friends or whatever TV programme was going, going gangbusters again at the time. Now that has a shelf life because these programmes kind of stop. And then it’s quite difficult to do the material to make it covered. But people do it. And people when spinoff, I used to listen to one about Indiana Jones, and he was going Australia, and he did about 290 episodes on Indiana Jones. And based on the fact that there was only five films or four films at this one coming out. I used to think how did he do it? Now what he did was he set up Google Alerts. And so you can actually set up an alert on Google. So anytime anything is referenced about the material you want, it appears and sends an email to you and you can have it daily, or you can have it weekly. And so he used to set that up. And he would put details about how some board or Sean Connery or whatever. And he would do spin offs about Okay, Sean was in this film, but he’s now doing this or he’s now retired. And he was a great little programme. I loved it. And so he stopped it because he once again couldn’t monetize it. It was a passion project. He loved the film about how to actually been turn it into money. So I would always look at it as Have you got your own business? If you have, what is your core back to your business? How do you actually use a podcast as a lead magnet to get people into your business? Okay, to find out more about your key offerings, if you haven’t, then look around to see what other people are doing that appeals to community. Because once you get the community, you can start spinning it off, and it works quite well. Once again, any sort of Burberry information, you can drop me a line Chris Martin, and, and we will speak and it will be a pleasure to speak to Mr. Coldplay himself. Well, until next time, my young patterns, thank you so much for dropping us as in line. And we’re going to start putting the voicemail on the website again, a little while ago, I had a voicemail where you could click on it and just leave a recorded message. it slowed my website down massively, but we think we’ve sorted out why. So I took it off, I’m going to be bringing that back. And it’d be lovely for you to drop the messages. And we can share them and you can listen to yourself and and you can play it to complete strangers. And you can say, look, this is me on joining thoughts. And I will say let’s make babies You see, that’s what happens. That is what happens when you sexy it up. Until next time, thank you so much for being here. As always, anyone who’s got any questions about anything that we talked about, just drop us a line at Join Up Dots@gmail.com. Or you can come over to the website and go down to the bottom of the page where you will see the contact form. And you can send us a message and I try to respond to very, very quickly. But more than that, if you jump over to iTunes, leave a rating and review that really, really, really, really helps me
