“Stress is killing me” you cry out to no one in particular.
And to be honest most of the time nobody really listens.
Every tells everyone they can that they are under stress or busy.
Nowadays its been a badge of honour to tell the world your stress levels.
But lets look at the real picture.
Is stress actually able to bring you to an early grave?
When you say “Stress is killing me” is it in fact anywhere close to the truth.
Well, from an ex- severe stress sufferer who didnt just get close to being able to say “my stress is killing me” but wrapped his arms around it, let’s look at the symptoms and tick them off one by one.
You can also listen to any of the podcast interviews and the guest will mention stress issues too.
You can’t get away from it in today’s day and age.
Stress and Anxiety
First of all you need to know what the difference is between stress and anxiety.
In my opinion anxiety is a worry state caused about what lies ahead.
It’s a future facing state of mind and for millions can be a very real problem.
You can face anxiety at getting married, taking exams, having a child for example.
Most life changing situations can cause anxiety in all of us.
Most are caused by a fear of how we will cope with the upcoming changes.
Some anxiety can be a good thing and helps us prepare better to ensure a good result.
Now stress is an emotional state effecting the inner workings of your body
Stress is a build up of many things occurring over either a short or long period of time.
It effects your bodies ability to cope and function and can have some serious effects for sure.
Stress Is Killing Me (Depression)
Depressions is terrible and cause people to take serious life threatening action.
However, the depression can be caused by many things not just periods of stress.
If you are somebody that suffers with depression and experience bouts of dark clouds overhead go to your Doctors.
There are many tablets and medicines that can help you alleviate the depression.
Even a change of scenery and an escape from the norm can do wonders for the mood you are under.
So in the regards to the claim that stress is killing me, then I would have to say no depression, not linked directly will do it.
Stress Is Killing Me (Blood and Cholesterol)
Now this is one that you definitely have to get a grip on as this can be a killer for sure.
A few years back I was under serious stress in my life.
I didn’t realise that I had a problem until I went to the Doctors and found my cholesterol was sky high.
“You are six months from a heart attack or a stroke” I was told by the Doctor.
There is certainly a lot of evidence that link long periods of stress with a high level of cortisol in the blood.
This is especially true with men who work in high performance roles
Adrenaline may also be released as a response to stress, allowing us to flight of flight to deal with what our life is throwing at us.
So if you think that stress is killing me then get your blood checked out as it actually could well be true.
Nasty Stress Related Skin Conditions
This is unpleasant for you to deal with for sure.
Nobody wants to look less than their best and stress can make us look rough around the edges.
When I was dealing with stress I had a few patches of acne on my body.
I also had Psoriasis across my face, which were very red and bumpy patches.
Not good for someone who, not vain, but certainly getting that way.
I would actually suggest that these symptoms are the first visible clues to bad stress.
If your hair and skin is normally fresh and lovely looking, and then goes down hill, you might need to assess workloads.
So i’m afraid i dont think the old “Stress is killing me” will work here either.
Bad Sleep and Insomnia Brought On By Stress
In the case of terrible insomnia which can be brought on by stress this could end nasty.
Nobody wants to be driving or working machinery when they are exhausted.
Stress can make your sleep patterns extremely erratic to say the least.
I remember literally wanting to close my eyes at my desk at 10:00am in the office,
Get into bed at 10:00pm and could I switch off?
You bet I couldn’t and it was literally killing me to get through a day.
However once again your cry of stress is killing me is scrubbed out on this one.
Summary Of Stress Is Killing Me
Honestly stress was the worst thing that I had even gone through.
Not so much for the stress but all the different issues that were caused by it.
I had terrible and crippling gout, high cholesterol, hair dropping out, skin conditions.
So many things that I struggled over a few years to get rid off.
Actually I dont think you ever get rid of stress once you get it.
You can control it, and make it less of a problem most certainly.
But like a puddle of water that just needs to be shaken up to start splashing you annoyingly, the same is the case for stress.
So dont worry is stress is killing you as it wont.
But for sure many of the things that it brings with it could well push you towards where you don’t want to go.
